Is it normal if i refuse to not live like i'm in the 21st century?

What I mean is everyone I know is so into the latest coolest advanced technology of the modern times such as iPhones, iPads, Xbox360s, PS3s. And I still have my NES, Sega, PS1, Gameboy(original and gameboy color). I don't even have an iPhone, I have a motorola. But that's because I can't stand moving on from these things, I feel that it'd be a waste of money to just buy things that are much less reliable. Mean why would you buy a $400-$1000 item if it's about as reliable as a pencil. I still have my cell phone, I've been using it since 2002 and it hasn't caused much problems as I've been when my buddies use their little miniature computer things. But people around me tell me I need to move out from under a rock and live up to the generation. Should I?

    I still record things on VHS. And my favourite game is Sonic The Hedgehog on Sega MegaDrive.

    If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

    Do we really need all this stuff?

    I find smart phones to be creepy. I don't get online every day or I get batty and anti-social. I think it's cool to not overindulge in modern technology.

    Yeah, don't be peer pressured into all these expensive gadgets that only turn you into a texting zombie. The Amish live in the 19th century, and are fine with it.

    Well, I don't think you're hurting anybody. So, whats the problem? You're normal.

    You don't have to be up on the latest things. Live your life the way you want to live it.

    Good to see I'm not the only one. I use the same cellphone since 1998, still working fine.

    I run my business from my phone so in that respect it is really handy to have what is basically a small computer in my pocket.

    Congratulations, you're not alone. I still play old videos on a VCR, cassette tapes in my car and occasionally vinyl records on a record player. Some of my cassettes were taped off vinyl 30 years ago and they still play fairly well - CD's don't last that long in my experience.

    I do have CD and DVD players, but I don't have a flat screen TV because there's nothing wrong with my 10 year old set.

    I replace things when they break down and can't be fixed, not when a new model comes out.

    Apple is a stupid company. They make crappy phones and expect you to pay 350+ dollars for technology that is highly inferior to a computer that you could get for about the same price.

    Telling this to someone who gets laughed at 'cos he continues to record things on VHS, plays vinyl records and still loves Sonic The Hedgehog on Sega MegaDrive. (Got a smartphone though....) Oh yeah: I hate DAB radio as well.

        Digital Audio Broadcast. Digital radio sounded great at first, but bandwidth squeezed so much it is now inferior to FM system it is intended to replace.

          Well, I was close!

          Yeah, that does suck. Kind of the same way that digital television broadcast sucks... What is a person to do!

    $400-1000 item?

    iPhone = free
    Xbox = came with laptop

    As for them being as reliable as a pencil, the tip has never broken off either of the devices. The phone I can understand as if you don't need it, the extra expense is pointless.

    Yes, it is normal that you want to hang on like that. You can't beat the classics either!
