Is it normal if i still pray, although i'm no longer religious?

I was a Christian for 18 years, but recently gave it up. Every time I really need something, I instinctively fold my hands and pray. Then I immediately feel silly, remembering that I no longer believe in a god.Is this normal?

Some people pray, some people meditate, and some people just pause for reflection. Whether you are talking to yourself, or a higher power, the ends are the same. You shouldn't feel silly for it.

Prayer doesn't have to be religious, necessarily. It could just be a way of hoping that something will happen. Either way, it's an old habit that will take some time to go away.

I think its normal....you being a believer before created a connection between you and who you used to call god. .this connection used to give you some kind of relief and trust that everything is going to be okkay. .now that you are not a religious person anymore u miss that kind of peace that u used to get when u pray. .so i think that its totally normal that whenever u face hardships you pray cuz some problems in this life no human can solve so you try to get help from a stronger power even though that u dont believe cuz u find no other exit.....

Are you sure you are an atheist. What do you mean, you "gave up" Christianity? It's fine if you don't believe In Christianity, neither do I, it's fine if you are an atheist, it's fine either way, it's your belief. Just make your mind up.

When I say I"gave up" Christianity, I mean that I realized that I no longer believed it to be true. I was only going along with it to please my family.
