Is it normal if i think the existence of most of us is meaningless

There are 168 hours a week. Exclude the hours when you sleep(about 50 hours). Exclude the hours you work at your job(40-50 hours, sometimes even more). Exclude the time spent while you eat, use transportation to work, do housework and cleaning etc., and when after all that you have a very limited time for yourself! Where is the fun in that? When can you engage in your hobbies? When can you devote time to your family and/or close friends?

Of course, I am talking about the lives of middle-class workers, not the lives of rich guys. Really, don't you think there is something wrong with how society works?

Life has no inherent meaning anyway. It is what you make it. If you want it to mean something more than it does, then that's your responsibility, nobody else's. Find something that'll make you feel fulfilled, and try your best to do it.

The fact is, in order for this elaborate and large human society to function the way it does currently, it requires people to work regularly in all facets, from the mundane and repetitive to the constantly evolving and high-risk, and in turn receive variable pay, from the low to the high.

There are countries, areas of the world, which you could escape to and live a simpler life if you wanted to. You'd probably have to sacrifice a lot of luxuries, but you may think these extraneous to the pursuit of 'meaning' anyway, so little loss. Why not do that?

    I enjoy transportation.

Anyway, I do understand your point. Especially with people who work very hard in a job that pays badly and which they hate. Capitalism doesn't really reward hard work, does it? It's quite unfair.

You have a slightly negative outlook on life. Yes, life may be meaningless but that doesn't mean you can't be happy, have fun and be grateful that you are living! There are some people with no roof over their head with no food!
There is far more to life than what you mention. Make time for yourself. Travel the world. Love. Friends. Family. Romance. Success. Spirituality. Giving. Charity. Laughing. Music. Meeting new people. Nature. Animals.
Slap a smile on your face and start enjoying life. Don't start counting the hours. Enjoy the time you have got.

Is "middle class" considered poor in some other parts of the world? Because middle class is considered pretty rich in the UK.

I think most people find time to have enjoyment in their lives regardless of how much they earn or how long they have to work. If you don't have any enjoyment then it's time to start thinking about a different job. Not that it's that easy for most people, but you might be able to take classes and build up your skills until you can get a different job. There are almost always options.

I think the key is to make work meaningful, to make cleaning and eating meaningful group activities and to find joy in the company of others. That way, every moment is meaningful and not just the times you get to yourself to do whatever you want to do.

Just so you know, there is no way of accessing your profile simply from your story post. You're anonymous when you post a story.

You're not crazy, and definitely not normal. You've got some sort of costume fetish.

I really want to see the photo, though.

I think the major barrier between you and me is an internet cable. You should be happy.

That's why I'm not middle class! You couldn't pay me enough to have a big house and all the stuff you're supposed to have, just doing stuff I didn't care about all day, for people I didn't like. It's about finding what you like and doing it. Some people enjoy all that stuff enough for it to be worth the work, or they actually like their jobs, and there is also satisfaction in doing something for a long time and being good at it. I only feel sorry for people who live that way who would be happier being poor and free, and I am also sorry for all the hardship pitfalls set up to keep those who are poor, but don't want to be, staying that way. Wouldn't it just be great if everything was great?

Life is not meaningless! it's what you make of it. It's normal for you to think that way since a lot of us don't have time for ourselves. Most people forget to live nowadays, but there are ways to deal with that problem anyway.
Just think of it. If you decide to spend the rest of your life in a remote village or somewhere in a forest, life would be different...

We consider it unfair...but maybe we should think of the 16,000 children who die every day due to starvation, who'll never live to have a future, like us. We should be more thankful for life.

Of course there is something wrong with how society works, but sadly there isn't anything one person (or many) can do about it. We are all stuck in it without choice.

T'is the price of conveniences and luxuries provided by society. You want to live in it...I guess you gotta pay the price....which is typically a 9-5 job...a cell phone bill...rent...a car payment...the electricity bill...etc. The choice of how to exist in this world is yours, and yours alone.

  • What if I told you insane was working fifty hours a week in some office for fifty years at the end of which they tell you to piss off; ending up in some retirement village hoping to die before suffering the indignity of trying to make it to the toilet on time? Wouldn't you consider that to be insane?

It has been said that if you love your work, then it isn't a job.
I believe it is important to choose a life path that one enjoys, not just going after money and security. For most, just settling for those things leads to depression and physical illness.
We'd all like to leave our mark on the world, but it's just not to be for most of us.

I believe "meaning" and "purpose" are concepts that we humans have made up in our minds, and therefore life would be meaningless.

Eight hours work and then you're too knackered to do anything else! People, the work environment (EMF pollution), people's perfumes, noise, the stress of the job itself are all so depleting and unnatural for some of us, that there is no hope of doing anything outside except dropping in an exhausted heap. I should know: this artificial world gave me CFS and now I am in poverty because of it and so exhausted (and stressed because of survival implications of no money!), I can't love or enjoy anything in life!

There's PLENTY of time to do the things you want. You work 8 hours a day. The rest if yours. It's all about effective time management. For example you can save yourself almost a whole working day by sleeping just 1 hour less each night.
