Is it normal; moon phobia?

Basically I've been freaked out by the moon for as long as I remember, not a clue how, why, when it happened etc. I'm pretty fine with it in thhe sky unless it's huge, orange or like surrounded by clouds, but if I see a close up picture or anything like that I literally cry, shake and hyper ventalate and just literally feel like incapable to look etc. I have loads of nightmares involving moons, black holes, spacey things etc.
Anyone else have this or any tips on how to sort it, noone seems to take me seriosuly and laughs at me and tbh I don't blame them!

I think people these days are bored and come up with these phobias. Can you imagine someone in 1903 who was afraid of the moon? No freaking way. They had too much to do and worry about to be afraid of inanimate objects.

Oh hun I don't know why their laughing that's rude.

You might just have a phobia of space..

I, myself actually find black holes interesting.

Not to mention I'm learning about planets, black holes, supernova's etc. in Science.

we have the same fear but not that serious.. i just realized it earlier, just when i saw the picture of the moon along with its dark surroundings and also those black spots i was shocked and quickly covered my eyes,
maybe for us to overcome it we should face our fear ..

I don't think it's normal, but I have a similar problem, so... it's normal, for me...

Did you by any chance play Zelda: Majora's Mask when you were little?

I can understand how space phenomenon might be scary to someone. It is normal.

  • ^^the Moon wouldn'tbe there without the Earth. Not the other way around:)

And to the story poster. The Moon is just a (very) large piece of rock, when you think of it. Are you afraid of mountains? Of the Earth itself? Didn't think so. It is also (very) far from here, haven't you noticed? So it can't really do anything to you. Think logically and you'll find out how great the Moon is.

"the Moon wouldn'tbe there without the Earth. Not the other way around:)"

I did not state that the Earth "would not be here" without the Moon (albeit the Moon controls the Earth's tides and tectonics---earthquakes). Technically speaking,if the Earth were to stop spinning, it would still exist.

      PS

I chose to remove my first post because I had stated that: the Earth would stop spinning if the Moon disappeared. This is incorrect.

  • I know I know that it has to stay there and I'm not exactly saying to get the fuck rid if it, just curious is ANYONE else out there has this or has any advice :L

  • Selenophobia indicates other underlying fears or concerns. Not common but recognized. If it interferes with your lifestyle seek professional therapy.

  • Well im not bored and making this up?
And another annoying thing is I know how beautiful and amazing space is, but the more i look up moons, planets, especially black holes and stuff i just start panicking and hyperventilating and stuff and it frustrates me because i really want to like learn more and confront it but just try and pushit to the back of my mind cause i think that's a better way of dealing with it
also it's nothing to do with werewolves
more the appearance and thought of it
still not a clue why though :/

I kind of understand because if someone had arachnophobia, it wouldn't be all that pleasant to learn everything about hairy little spiders. I hope you find an answer which helps you.

Have you considered getting therapy? There may be an underlying reason why the moon bothers you so - such as something that happened to you while looking at the moon?

Or something to do with werewolves?

One way of dealing with a phobia is to confront it. If you start reading up about the moon and black holes and learn interesting things, you may find that space is actually pretty beautiful. That's how I feel, anyway.

That was my thought. Learn about the moon. It is amazing and beautiful. It is a part of this world that many people forget about. It is rich with lore, all intended to help us in some way.

The moon is connected to water. As evidenced by the tides. Our bodies have roughly the same percentage of water as the earth. Of course we feel the moon, many of us just don't know that's what we are feeling. It is very much tied to our emotions. Where was the moon when you were born? This may give you some insight into your self. The more we learnabout ourself, the better we can control our fears.

It's just another odd phobia. Plus, the moon is associated with a lot of superstitious/weird things, it can be creepy.

  • well if it bothers you so much move away from it, easy

You can't move away from the moon, unless you go to a different planet. But some other planets have more moons than Earth, so that would probably just exasperate the problem...
I have no idea why you're afraid of the moon, that's pretty interesting. Maybe you should consider therapy. Hypnotherapy in particular might help to explain the basis of the fear.
