Is it normal mp3 have gotten so cheap?

I have noticed that mp3 use to range from 40-100$. Now most of them have dropped to 15-25$. People still have mp3. What exactly happened that has made the market drop? I would understand if CDs have went down. Even some touchscreen and video Mp3, and mp4 have become extremely cheap. I do not understand why this is? Not complaining but whats going on?

The principle is sound though. Tubescreen tvs got replaced by plasmas and flatscreens and the prices dropped aswell. Old technology sells cheaper only when new technology takes its place. Lol

Basically all cellphones nowadays come with built-in mp3 players and radios aswell as digital cameras and everybody has atleast one cellphone. It made the prices of video and digital camera prices and mp3players. This has happened globally due to people rather buying a multipurpose smartphone than a seperate camera, and mp3 player...makes sense doesn't it?

As technology gets better we can make it more cheaply. Brands which aren't innovative or popular need to be cheap to be able to compete with brands which are innovative or popular.

Maybe MP3s are on the decline? In which case, their value would go down.

I think it's because most of people use iPod or their phone for music. iPod is much better than most of MP3 players so even though it's expensive people buy more of them than MP3s.

The price of all tech stuff goes down year buy year. That is why you can buy a TV that would have costed $5,000 5 years ago for about $1,200.

    • Yes but it is not just certien brands. It is Mp3 overall. We still use mp3 so if they have nothing threatening to replace them shouldn't they still be expensive?

Ipods are still very expensive. I still use my ipod video 5g which is like over seven years old, and I noticed that they still fetch over $50 on ebay.

But to actually answer your question, the reason is because the technology to produce them is much less expensive. An MP3 player is a little more than a memory stick (or mini hard drive) in a box and the software to play the music. Years ago high capacity solid state memory used to cost hundreds of dollars, but now you can pick up a 16Gb memory stick at Walmart for $20.

There are more brands now and that gives everyone more to compete with.

I can tell you the ACTUAL answer. Technology is constantly increasing that are used to produce these devices, making it easier to produce them. This causes the price to fall, so companies could sell more of the product(And potentially increase their profit).
