Is it normal my 5 month old kitten does this?

She's almost 5 months old and she's in heat already! She's an indoor cat, of course. My kitten presents herself [as in her exposed behind] to my other pets. She does it whenever they go anywhere near her and she yowls to get their attention if they ignore her.

I know she's hornie, but should I be discouraging her from acting like a ho? So far I've felt sorry for her, but it also gets annoying after a while. I can't believe I have to put up with this for another week or two. She was so cute a few days ago and now this.

Discourage her by spraying her with water. 22
Discourage her with a loud noise. 3
Discourage her some other way (see below). 8
Do NOT discourage her. Ignore it. 35
Encourage her. 10
Other (see below). 6
Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

My cat did the same thing. Just make sure she doesn't go around male cats.

You can get her fixed so her libido gets stifled a bit. No point in discouraging her, it's nature. Thats like punishing a 13 year old for starting her period :P

There's no point in discouraging her, it won't do anything. She's not aware that she's doing anything wrong, so punishing her would only confuse her. It's just simple biology, that's what animals do. Just get her spayed and it'll stop.

my kitten went in heat about that time too, and she annoyed the hell out of my boy cat. since you can't really do anything about it, just wait until she is old enough to be spade.

Yeah, just another suggestion, you should spay your cat before she goes into heat....I'm guilty of not doing that just becuase I didn't think it would happen so soon. But if they experience their first heat, they can shorten their life and have more problems later on in life. But hey, you didn't know, so don't feel bad, just get it done ASAP.

Other than humans i dont really think animals can behave like hoes when they are in heat they do go a bit crazy though...

One of my kittens was just in heat. Try keepng the lights real low, cats tend to not go into heat in winter, so if you keep it dark it might help a lot. It worked for me. But be aware, cats can go into heat a lot, unlike dogs who do it twice a year....cats will do it untill they get bred. So try the light thing, so she thinks it's winter and possibly won't want to breed.

    • Thanks. I'm going to try that until she's old enough to be spayed.

talk to your vet about getting her spayed.

  • Just wait till she's spayed, it will solve the problem. Although I don't remember either of my two kittens acting like this but this guide says you get them spayed at 6 months or before their first heat.
