However, not the black, which covers two thirds of his body? I haven't got a clue what his problem is, maybe he thinks it tastes like licorice.
It might help to know that he obsessively licks his nipples until they're raw. He is five years old and slightly overweight, not obese. He is active.

He attacks me when I try to brush him. Should I get him shaved at a groomer?

The hair that sloughs off of him in a day is disgusting.

    Yeah, that is pretty usual for a cat. Cat's do whatever they want.

    Get him to a groomer and on a diet, even being a little overweight is not good for a cat.

    your cat is most definitely a self hating racist, have you tried screaming at him and putting a gun to his head? Animals respond to violence most of the time. tie his tail around his neck and sew pockets to his sides and use him as a coach bag knock off, you will definitely be the talk of the town. Bring a whole new meaning to fur is murder :)

    Maybe he's a bit body conscious about his weight and so doesn't want to lick his black fur in front of you, therefore shaving him would be the worst thing to do, he'll lose all his dignity!

    My cat used to suck on the hair on its shoulder/armpit area so much that the fur there turned from black/grey to yellow... :/ idk cats are strange things <3

    He could have nerves or have hair mats. Take him to a groomer and see what they can do. Also, switch him to a healthier diet. Ask the vet how you can make him go on a diet.

    White cat fur is usually much softer and silkier. Maybe it feels nicer to lick, but from your pic I suspect the black part is harder to reach. So maybe if he slimmed down a bit, it would be easier for him to groom himself everywhere?
