Is it normal my grandma puts dead mice in the freezer?

We have two house cats that frequently catch mice. My 80 year old grandma has for as long as I can remember, will pick up the dead mice and put them into a Ziploc bag and then into the food freezer for later disposal. The idea being so they won't smell and we can throw them out with the trash later. We live in a farm type of property and I keep asking her why we can't toss them out into the bushes for other animals to eat.

She adds them later to Grandma's secret recipes.

I wouldn't say it's normal, but it is reasonable, especially if she lives in a rural area- she's probably trying to avoid raccoons and opossums from scattering garbage all over her lawn.

Grandmas do odd things, mine put bitter on fucking everything. Ham sandwiches, sun burns, squeaky closet doors. You name it, she'd grease it up. Probably no surprise she died from congestive heart failure...

I don't think that's particularly normal when they're just little field mice. Now if they fancy mice, domestic pet mice, that she intended to bury it would make more sense. Maybe she doesn't want to attract predators and scavengers to her property?

Maybe she uses them for witchcraft and that is just an excuse.

My mom spread out a dead bird's wings in the freezer after it broke it's neck on a window for this exact purpose. She hopes it will stay in that position with its wings spread out so she can get it stuffed and mounted in a glass box.

  • Seems unhygienic to put mice, who frequently have diseases, in the same place as the food you eat.

Maybe it's a habit she picked up from her own parents when she was younger.

It's not normal if she leaves it in the freezer

    Farm type of property?
Stop feeding your cats so much, so that they eat the mice ;)

Maybe that's her way of sending them off

If other animals don't eat them, does SHE eat them? And maybe... it's a new hobby? Sounds enjoyable.
