Is it normal my heart is broken after putting my dog down?

My dog was 16
She had not been in good health for a few years prior to today.
She had a neurological problem affecting her legs, balance and coordination.
She was not in any pain, but was finding it hard to walk and enjoy life.

My heart is broken now I had her put to sleep.
Is it normal to feel this bad after putting your dog down? I feel like I made the wrong choice.

It's normal to feel bad. You just lost a dear friend and you feel guilty.

What you need to remember however is that you also saved her suffering. You say she wasn't in pain but dogs can't tell you where it hurts. And you may have saved her lots of pain in the future too.

You made the best decision you could for her, and I've she we're human she'd probably tell you do herself. I hope you start to feel better soon.

no you did the best thing possible for your little doggy, it may have been hard for you but just remember you gave your dog happiness by letting him go and freeing him from the pain, he would have had an awesome life by the sounds that u simply gave him constant bundles of love =)

Well, Boo-Hoo! Contact John Edward or Sylvia Browne and tell them you want to talk to your dead doggie! The dog is DEAD! GROW UP!

I picked out, and named, a dog when I was five. she lived for 12 years. I had to have put down because she had too much trouble breathing. now, 9 years later, I'll have moments where I break down and cry. The pain never goes away; but remember, we both saved our dogs from more pain than we could understand

I lost my dog after over 15 years and it hurt so much to put her to sleep. My other dog is now her age and having trouble walking like she did. I've also had multiple dreams about her for the last few months. Its very normal but hurta very much.

Aw :( I feel so sad for you. We had to have a dog put down once and it is soooo sad. Console yourself though, that you did the best thing for her. It would not have been kind to wait until she was suffering. That would have been much worse and you would've felt even more guilty :(

You did the best thing for her and I hope you get another one to love in the near future.

Very normal only thing that could make me think on something else was that my brother who lives about an hour away got a kitten that needed alot of attention both because well its a kitten and because its mother was a wild cat and left them ( cant remember if there was some reason its a pretty long time ago ) and it was still to young to be away from its mother about 5-6 weeks old. Was a bit hard though that kitten was everywhere in the furniture in the windows even crawling up my back other times just crawling up my leg...
