Is it normal my knees make snap/cracking noises? 22 years old

For about the past six months, my knees make snapping/cracking noises about twice a day. Sometimes they don't. But it's really got me worried now. There is no pain, but it is a loud sound that a lot of my family members have told me I need to get checked. I am generally healthy (no smoking or drinking) but I am overweight by about 20 lbs. Any advice?

I'm only 18 and I have creaking, clicky knees... Not good. Should see a doctor sometime.

I've heard fish oil does really good for joints.

    • Hmm.. I've heard that too. And I don't really eat any fish. I might try that. Thanks!

This is pretty normal. I hope I can explain why clearly. You have fluid around your joints that sometimes get air pockets/bubbles in them, and the bubbles make noise when they pop. It's the same as when you crack your knuckles. Some people's joints are just louder than average. Now, there could very well be a problem if your knees also hurt, but noise with no pain is (usually) nothing to worry about no matter how old or young you are. Maybe just ask your doctor next time you go to make yourself feel better and to find out for sure.

    • That makes sense. Kind of like when you blow bubbles under the water it makes the loud popping sound at the surface. Thanks :)

I have kinda have the same thing, except it does hurt when I pop my knees and I can do it when ever I want. your problem probably isn't anything to worry about scence there's no pain involved, if u keep an average about of times u pop it a day and that average goes up u might want to ask a doctors about it

I'm younger than you, not overweight, but my bones make the loudest noises when I move. It's most likely nothing but yes you should probably still get it checked out just in case.

To be on the safe side you might want to see a doctor. I suggest taking fish oil or eating fish. Keep in mind that in the US (I don't know where you are.) most fish oil is produced from tilapia instead of something like salmon. Tilapia has caused a lot of people allergic reactions so, it would be best if you bought fresh fish though, you always have to be wary about fish swapping and high levels of mercury. You shouldn't eat fish all the time because of the mercury. I think 2-3 times a week should be good.

You should definitely start taking Chlorella.

It has done wonders for my muscles, joints and digestive system as well as my overall health.

This used to happen to me. It's due to weakness in muscles around the knee, which causes the kneecap to rub on the bones. I started an exercise program and all the noises are now gone.

  • Well guys I've actually started doing stretching and working out with squats and it has helped tremendously! It's like using those joins helps keep them in line.

My dad is in his thirties and his knees do that all the time! He went to the doctor, but they don't know what it is. He thinks it's because he lifted too many heavy things too much.(military)

Sounds like arthritis, which would be really sad so young. See your doctor for some x-rays.
