Is it normal my microsoft works word processor wont erase word files?

I am trying to erase certain word files but my computer refuses to let me. I am not sure why its doing this and it has done this even though I erased the files 3 times but when I come back to them they are still present and accessible. Any advise on how I can solve this dilemma. I would prefer wiping everything clean but I cant do that since the recovery discs are not working. PLEASE HELP!

    Your hard drive is either corrupted or haunted. Find a geeky exorcist.

    You can hide it or download a software that lets you forcefully delete it.

    There's one word file my computer just will not erase, and I don't know why either :/
