Is it normal: needle phobia

I have a needle phobia and hypnotherapy didnt help, i think it mad me more scared (it may work for other people, so dont let my experience put you off). i think the skin & veins scares me to. I also hate my pulse, feeling it feels horrible to me. I realised i had a phobia when i had to have the cervical cancer jab. They managed to give me the first one, but they ended up having to hold me down and my nana coming in :) after that though it just got worse, and i wouldnt let them come anywhere near me, i ended up not having the other ones. when people try to talk about my phobia i cant talk and i just cry. I really dont know how to get over it... Also, i have a problem with a tooth, which i would originally have needed an injection for. I now have to have gas or, if the gas doesnt help, maybe go under a general anesthetic (worst case scenario)... is it normal to be this scared of needles?

I totally sympathise with you I have a needle phobia (trypanophobia) and have recently developed anxiety because of it , people dont understand they always say "it doesn't hurt " or "you'd rather have a flu jab than flu " but id rather have flu its not a case that il be fine if I look away its a case of me not physically being able to leave the house to go to the docs to get an injection . I have 7 tattoos and it hasn't helped my phobia one bit as its a different thing , but im going for CBT soon and will post an update if it works . All the best

Definitely normal. I don't have a phobia of needles myself but I do hate them, though strangely it's only with the ones that doctors use. Getting shots and stuff I can't stand, but I've got 4 tattoos and those needles didn't bother me at all.

Totally normal. The last time I had to get a shot the doctor had to chase me around the room, not good lol.

Normal needles are fine but when im close to getting a injection i have a very hard time stopping myself from moving away i dont think i can be "cured" from the fear and it is also the main reason why i hate the dentist...
