I'm usually connected wherever I am, but does anyone else think there's something wrong with this? Where we've created something that's like a new oxygen to us? Nobody in the 17th century had this and they lived happy enough lives. Why such a need now?

I was wondering if you saw the TV programme where they did a social experiment on happiness amongst school children? They took all modern day gadgets off them and the make-up from the girls for a month. At the end of the month, the children actually marked their happiness higher!

It seems that this constant communication is just another stress on them.

Personally, I believe the toilet is the only place to text your friends, as it is EXTREMELY RUDE to send / read a text when you're with someone. Texts aren't usually urgent so why is the text more important than speaking to the person you're with?

I'm actually bored with texting now and I think it's coz I don't upgrade my phone. I've had the same make of phone for 3 years now so there's nothing new to discover. No apps or anything unnecessary like that!

I didn't see that documentary but I'd be interested in seeing it. Do you remember what it was called? And I agree with you. I believe it's really rude to be constantly checking your phone when you are out with someone. It's one of the many problems I had with my ex. Her phone was out the whole time and it was her main focus. One time I was at her house and she put on a repeat of a programme she knew I hated (but that she liked) and then ignored it for long periods because she was checking Facebook with her phone. I felt like Facebook was her lover, the crap TV was there as her bit on the side, and I was only there on the rare occasion she might have any spare attention that neither of them could fulfil. I've never felt so belittled. Third-string entertainment!

I think it was one of those 'Insight' programmes. If not the BBC's 'Tonight' series it was perhaps under the collection of Channel 4 'Dispatches' at 8pm tonight - which is "Can you trust your dentist?"

It was strange to see the results higher when we think the teenagers today have everything money can buy. My mother always says that kids only want your time, not what you can buy.

A bit like you with your ex ;o)

I hope you don't literally mean in the toilet.

No. He/she is of course referring to the metaphorical toilet of life

Sure it is normal! Why waste the time. Do mind who you call though, not everyone appreciates a phonecall from a toilet. (Gf used to get so mad.)

Offtopic: that's so sexist only taking make-up from girls. Plus I get [super] stressed when I'm outside the country and don't have internet on my phone. Certainly not increasing my happiness.
