Is it normal not care about looks when finding a partner?

I never cared about looks when dating people, I only saw the soul. I only cared if they did good things, had simular intrests as me, and most of all, treated me well. I would always get made fun of for dating "ugly" people. I didn't care. But it made me realize, is this not a normal way of veiwing things?

I was talkin to some young chic about this the other day. She said only guys care about looks. But apparently on tinder an average guy gets a swipe about once a week where an average girl gets swiped an unrecordable amount of times, according to some shit I read on google idk if its true. But I bet it is. The attractive men obviously get alot of swipes.

Most people care about looks. If the attraction isnt there its hard for it to work. But theres alot more to it than looks. Look at amber heard. Shes quite a looker but shes been in 500 relationships and still single. And she shits in the bed.

I definietely have a type but it's just an aesthetic preference, otherwise i'm mostly the same as you. I'm a little picky nontheless but that is because i'm a guarded person and won't let just about anyone into my life. When I look for a partner I look for a longterm partner only, so looks are only part of the equation. Often someones charm or such will be more attractive than their looks. I've come across plenty attractive people I didn't feel anything special about because they were boring, had bad personalities or we had nothing in common.

Whether this is normal or not depends on a variety of things.

If you're a woman who's reached the age of 30, and is absolutely done with dating "attractive douchebags", then it's normal. Women over 30 generally are looking to settle with someone who will make a good life partner.

If you're a guy who's moderately successful and has a strong, principled value base, then it's also normal. Successful men all too often get orbited by women looking to take advantage of them, so some guys try looking for "better" women by changing their criteria accordingly.

If you're a young girl who wants to play the field or a guy who will jump into bed with basically any girl that gives him the time of day, then it's not normal to actively seek out someone who doesn't meet your own arbitrary standards of beauty.

Basically when you're young, you're experimenting and trying to find out exactly what you are into. You tend to seek out the people who you find physically attractive, and you don't regard their other traits as important because there's nothing to compare them to.

When you're older and you get to your epiphany phase, you start to realise that the person who is the most physically attractive might not make the best long term partner, and you place more value on everything else.
