Is it normal not to acknowledge former teacher/schoolmate

So today i was riding the bus home when I noticed this really familiar looking guy who was traveling with a small group of kids.Obviously, he was a teacher.

But specifically he used to be my teacher,or at least a teacher at my old school.

Anyway,I was looking at him,and he looked back and waved at me.And I since I wasn't sure if I was right(and didn't know him anyway) I just kinda ignored him.

The kicker here is that on the next stop over a couple of my former schoolmates also got on the bus. When they saw him they waved and he wave back said hi and stuff. And I was just standing there looking out the window feeling awkward...

So is it normal not to acknowledge former schoolmates and teachers?

That is kind of rude. I would have at least waved back.

Sure why not if you don't know who they are. It could be some crazy person.

I used to be that way when I was younger and I was an introvert with no social skills and no self confidence.
I can remember times in my childhood and youth when I acted the same way as you, and I think to myself "how rude! What the hell was the the matter with me?"
I would say that's NOT normal!
I got over it and would never do anything like that today.
I don't know what advice to give you to get over it. Perhaps you'll grow out if it. We don't all mature in the same areas at the same rate. While your classmates have this figured out already perhaps you have already surpassed them in other areas.
The fact that you asked the question indicates that you feel like you behaved improperly. The first step toward fixing a problem with ourselves is to admit we have a problem and it looks like you're already on the way to fixing yours.
    Good luck!

Are you telling us the all story or there is something missing to tell us about the past when he was your teacher. Nobody forgets a teacher just like that.

Whenever I see a teacher or schoolmate I know, I just avoid them but say hi if they say hi first..

How many young goats were there? Why were there goats on the bus?
Were there children and / or adolescents (teenagers) on the bus?
Obviously, the teacher didn't [teach very well].

I hate acknowledging people I know (but am not friends with) in public. I just stare at the floor and pretend I don't notice them.
