Is it normal not to take my meds?

I should take a little medication every day to help me manage my anxiety - but I don't. I'm afraid it will make me fat. It's normally used for more serious things, but can help anxiety too. I think I'm scared to take it? It seems to help when I do. I don't get why I don't want to take it?

So tell your doctor you don't like the side effects and want to try something else. There's a lot of anxiety meds on the market. Research them and make a list of side effects you are ok/not ok with.

A doctor probably prescribed you seroquel or some other anti-psychotic for your anxiety didnt he? I would not take it either.

I don't care for seroquel. I'm not interested in any medication that could give me tardive dyskinesia. I don't think antipsychotics and or mood stabilizers are necessarily what someone with my personality disorder needs.

Exactly, and the the doctors who prescribe those medications don't care if they fuck people up for good. I was taken off of Klonopin and put on Risperdal for a time and it was awful! Risperdal made me feel like a zombie, that stupid doctor might as well have told me shut up and sit down in a corner in regards to my anxiety when he prescribed me that crap. I really don't care to take a medication that causes breast growth and possibly breast cancer in young men. That shit didn't make my boobs grow, but I wouldn't be surprised if they eventually found it caused breast cancer in females too, fuck that shit!

I like klonopin.....it works for anxiety. The only reason doctors are not prescribinv it is because it is a benzo and a schedule 4 controlled substance. Doctors are doing the same thing to chronic pain patients for this same reason. Prescribing mobic instead of opiates that actually take the pain away. Mobic is proved to cause huve risks of stroke and stomach bleeding.

            • Yes opiates are much much better for chronic pain as they don't cause organ damage. NSAIDs damages the stomach. I also take klonopin.

If you know your doctor well and trust him/her - then I think you should try the medication they suggest. If - and it's only IF - there is a side-effect, let him know. You can always stop them. But if you don't try, you'll never know if they might be the answer to you feeling better again. A friend of mine takes seroquel and says it saved her from reaching breaking point. She just feels calmer. Try if for a few weeks or you'll never know, will you?

I think it's relatively normal to be anxious about taking medication, especially if you have anxiety. I think it's best if you can not only take the medication, but integrate that with cardiovascular exercise, yoga, meditation, prayer, aromatherapy, deep breathing, etc and of course whatever form of psychotherapy and or cognitive behavioral therapy which may be appropriate for your particular affliction.

Always let your doctor know if you're experiencing negative side effects of any kind.

Not trying to be rude but medications don't make you fat, I'm guessing you're either "genetically fat" and/or don't understand proper nutrition, possibly due to your mental disorder

Yes, medications themselves do not make you fat, you still need to eat excess calories for that to happen. Some meds can have effects that foster weight gain (such as increased appetite, decreased mobility, hormonal changes, etc). A lot of people do not adjust their diet accordingly/keep it in check and that's where the problem is. And by listing weight gain as a side effect, many people do just blame the pill and not even realize they need to watch what they eat.
