Is it normal not to want to share your religion with others?

I'm wicca, and I don't like telling people because I'm afraid they'll think I'm strange or call me a witch and get vicious. I have always been a wiccan, but is it normal to feel like I can't tell anyone? I just don't know if they would understand...

Some people are ridiculous! I'm so sick of super Christians and Catholics calling Wiccans, and Homosexuality evil! That's why everyone is going Atheist. Most of their stuff doesn't even make sense. I do believe in God, but the Bible seems like someone editted it or it's fake.

I'm a Mormon. I usually tell people that I am a Christian, though. When people talk about Mormons, they usually are talking trash. Depending on whether I like them or not, I will tell them that I am a Mormon and it's funny to see them realize that they were being prejudice to my face but none of the trash talk even applied to me. It's great, you should try it.

Bigots can't be bigots to anyone's face. None of them. They are usually huge cowards. Don't worry about them. I'm a Christian and I could care less what you believe. You're not setting my car on fire or anything. We're cool. Ahhh, the stupidities of bigotry...

    I vote normal.

    I understand.

My boyfriend is a Wiccan priest (I'm Catholic) and if it comes up he'll say what he is, but ... he doesn't make it the first thing he says either.

He once had a coworker a few years back tell him, "I can't be friends with you..." but he pointed out, "I'm still the same person I was yesterday." She thought about that and agreed that he hadn't changed. He was still the same trustworthy person she knew.

At our own home he does exhibit more signs, like a rather nice looking broom mounted to the wall in the dining room. And there's a cast-iron cauldron in the cupboard. (actually I got him that one for Christmas/yule a couple of years ago)

but yes, there are still those who are dumb who assume "witches are in congress with satan" without understanding what Wiccans really do or stand for.

Religion is a personal thing and one should refrain from "pushing" their beliefs on others. However, if asked one should reply with a short, to the point answer.

I happen to be a 69-year old Atheist. I was brought up and forced to attend church (Protestant) by my mother. After I left home religion seemed meaningless and I concluded all religions are merely a form of a Societial control mechanism. If one believes....that's OK with me. In my case I DON@T believe and if it's not OK with anyone else, that's THEIR problem.

I don't blame you one bit. The more different your religion is from someone else's, the more likely you are to have that person question your choices.

Some religions require you to go out and "witness" to "non-believers" and save their souls. Those are the ones that are annoying.

Thank you! And yes, I don't like people who try to change your religion or are sure theirs is obviously the best so we should all convert or die in hell... not very nice.

I have been reading a few things about wiccans and I must say it sounds like a very interesting cool religion. even if It was not quite clear what they worship.
    I am out of here.
I got webstalkers on my back.
So annoying! Have you got any spells/curses I can use to deal with this issue? No wait, I already have them. Kachiiing!

It often depends on which form you want to get into.

My boyfriend is "Old English" style. He celebrates things such as Yule, Beltane, etc.

Although he doesn't hold with curses. Many true Wiccans feel that you reap what you sow... So if you run around trying to curse people and fuck them up, then it will come back on you - and often stronger.

      it's about being in balance.

Oh my goodness. Since I was a little girl I've been told that thats black magick and is unacceptable under any circumstances. Magick is to heal, not to hurt. And yes, you're right. It depends on what kind of wiccan you are.

Technically though magic is neither white nor black... it all depends on how you use it.

Even a healing spell could be evil if you say... used it to heal Hitler, no?

Although I am curious as to why people keep coming up with different spellings of "magic".

I never saw it spelled differently in English until maybe the 80s. And then only in fantasy books

I'm wondering where that came from.

And no my BF spells it "magic" as well.

not all christians hate other religions. my church is great as they do talk about other religions because they are out there and people can believe in what they feel is right and thats why i get annoyed that just because one person try's to push there religion on you or judges other religions doesn't mean everyone is like that. i love my religion and people should be pround in what there religion too.

I understand that, and I don't try to immediatly tell people my religion, but if I am asked, and I tell them, I hate it when that changes the way they feel about me and think I am a different person. I don't EVER try to force my religion onto people, and no one ever should.

Unless you try to shove your religion down someones throat or preach about it constantly, I doubt most will care. And I'm just curious, what's Wiccan? I don't think I've ever heard of it before.

Being wiccan, or a wicca, is an ancient pagan religion that became popularized inthe 1950's. The majority believe in being one with nature, and keeping the balance of things. Their are different deites depending on what you believe, and in general it's a pretty relaxed religion. Most of us believe in the three fold law, which is kinda like karma, and there is an ancient rede that states " An it harm none, do as ye please".
