Is it normal schools focus on socializing instead of education?

I not sure if this happened to anyone else but it happened to me before I graduated. I am not talking about university either. When a child got good grades the teachers would complain to parents that they are not socializing in every class or that they don't have friends. If the child was very sociable but had horrible grades they say focus on schoolwork. Is it normal schools seem to focus so much on social skills when the child is doing alright in school? Than if you cant name any friends they give you the shame on you disappointed look as though you did something bad.

Because in the workforce, especially in higher level management jobs your knowledge, intelligence and experience will get you a job.

Your social skills are what makes you an effective manager and will let you keep that job.

I noticed when I was in honors class, you had to have a lot of friends to do well, because a lot of the projects required group work outside of class which made me quite uncomfortable being that I did not trust the kind of people who were in my class. I suppose it is something they should teach ppl to work together. But it seemed everyone else already knew how, alienating weirdos like me. I ended up skipping the biggest projects of the whole yr because I couldn't get into a group. I even tried to make my own but it was horrible and embarrassing, thank god the cd it was on malfunctioned or else my shameful failure would have been shown to the entire grade class. The teacher ended up giving me a C in the class, either because she was so aloof, or just felt sorry for me. So I always took regular classes althought they were too easy, honors were too socially exclusive for me.

    • Generally in my class if you did not have a partner they assigned you one. Sometimes teacher would just say forget the pairings and assign everyone if you knew anyone or not. It was not always the ideal situation but it was a lot less exclusive to who actually had friends.

    • I don't know why they do that. They seem to put a huge value in socializing.
