Is it normal that barking dogs stress me out?
I have a dog. Unlike the rest of the inconsiderate world, I do NOT let my dog bark and bark. I think 5 minutes is way too much. That's so rude. I have empathy for people's ears, so I don't ever let my dog harass the world with noise.
Unfortunately, I live in a house that has 5 dogs. The rest of the people living here pretty much let these dogs do as they please. They're the uncivilized variety of canines, lol. Over time, I've grown SICK of every other dog except mine. Its the noise. These dogs bark too much, too often. One starts and the rest follow. Worse? Some neighbor's dog starts barking, and then every dog around joins in. Every day! Torture!
Why can't I ignore it? It actually causes me verifiable stress. I have no trouble keeping these dogs quiet. All I have to do is yell once to STOP. They do quit if I ask. No one else insists that these dogs be quiet. So, its noise fest every day. Picture a pack of dogs loudly barking like mad, several times a day? How do you feel now?
When the barking goes on and on? I almost want to pack them up and dump them somewhere. <-- Not really, that's just a false will-never-actually-happen threat. I couldn't ever do that. I still get really P.O.'d at them! I thought dogs had a higher sense of hearing? I think not, given the high decibel level from their idiocy barking.
Me thinks that dogs need to be selected for the bark free variety? We can't install a mute button? Someone invented those radio fence collars, by golly its time for the mute button too?!?!? An on/off switch! Yay! Barking may have been a positive characteristic long ago on the farm or whatever, but NOT in the modern, domesticated world. Makes no sense. I mean, if you're a canine that needs to stalk prey to eat, barking isn't going to work in your favor. Stealth silence is more advantageous.
Is it normal to have a dog, but hate when dogs bark? That noise is stressssssssssssssssssssssssssss. Its turning me into a dog hater because the OWNERS have no consideration at all. This is ultimately a people problem. I swear I would make people have to have a license to get a dog.
