Is it normal that dogs scoot/shuffle their butt when they're excited?

My family dog gets regular check ups at the vets and has her anal sacks/glands emptied too so we don't know why but every time someone comes to visit that she knows, she will get overexcited and jump around and bark but she'll also drag her butt across the floor too. Is this a thing dogs do out of excitement? She's a Jack Russell Terrier.

I think I accidentally taught a dog to do that while trying to teach it roll over. So now whenever I say roll over sometimes they will do butt wipe instead, it's so funny. that dog is also a (different kind of) terrier.

I think it must be a Terrier thing because I saw a YouTube video of a little girl asking a Yorkshire Terrier to do the butt shuffle and it immediately did it. Also my mother was watching that UK dog training TV show called "It's Me Or the Dog" and a JRT scooted it's butt over to Victoria Stilwell, lol

It is anxiety not excitement. Make sure you are properly socializing your dog. Perhaps take it to more local dog parks so that it can be around other people more often.

It can't be anxiety as my parents give her the best life a dog could ask for. My mother walks her everyday except when it's raining because the dog doesn't like the rain but when it's a dry day she walks her 3 times in 1 whole day and she gets to interact with other dogs.

She's used to being domesticated, my parents adopted her because her previous owners never let her out and kept feeding her leftover pizza slices and not proper dog food.

She loves parks but at first she was scared because as said before she was neglected by her previous owners.

My parents do try their very best to make sure the dog is happy.

Well you already mentioned anal glands, the other cause is worms.

Sounds like you all take good care so if not worms, anxiety or anal glands, then it's either a bad habit or something else causing an irritation.

Since you mention it occurs when people are about I went with anxiety.
