Is it normal that i always feel the need to apologize to people?

I always feel the need to apologize, even when I haven't done anything wrong. When I'm talking to people, I feel like I'm just bothering them. I'm extremely anxious all the time...advice/answers please..

I get like this too. At times, I've tried my best not to say that "I'm sorry" because I fear it makes people think there's something wrong with me or draws attention to me in general. I have been emotionally distraught or on the verge of it when I have said "sorry" in conversations. I just get anxiety sometimes over "small" things I've done that I feel I have done wrong which makes me insecure about my self, etc. Sometimes, I feel embarrassed or twitish about saying it and people's reactions usually don't help it.

I say sorry constantly as well. I find it quite amusing really.
I said to my friends mum.
"Sorry I ate your dinner so quick, it was lovely, and I didnt savour the taste. Can you forgive me?!"
I say stupid things like that all the time.

If you haven't done anything wrong there's no need to apologize. But, in my humble opinion, I think you could possibly be deal with some codependency issues. Check out this website http://www.coda.org/

    here's when you should apologise-
    - insulting someone
    - hurting someone physically or emotionally
    - breaking something
    - cheating (on you partner, or in general)

other than that, you should be good.

How about making a mistake? Like if you overlook something at work, or don't get time to do something before it is due?

apologise once. don't give an excuse unless they ask for it though.

Are you female? If so, you're far more likely to apologize for things that aren't your fault. It's a cultural thing. I don't know why we do it, but according to Scientific American, it's because we're hyper-aware of all the offenses we might be perpetrating on other people even though a man wouldn't consider the same event offensive:

It might help to be more aware of it. I used to be a major over-apologizer, but just realizing that a lot of the things I was sorry about weren't even problems for other people helped me relax a little.
