Is it normal that i always pick at my nails and hair?

I always pick at the skin around my nails to the point where it is bleeding and painful. I hate it, but I can't stop.
I also always look for any split ends in my hair and then I remove the ends from my hair. I don't want to keep doing this, but alas, I cannot help myself.
Lastly, I always clean under my nails and cut my fingernails. It's to an obsessive degree and I just want to grow my nails out.
I can't even stop myself from doing this in public. I hate this and I want to stop!

    I am exactly the same!
I am constantly picking the skin around my fingernails or I'm chewing on it. I constantly look through my ends of my hair for splits and I pick them if I have them. I have dermatillomania which is an obsessive and compulsive disorder of skin picking. I could stop if I really tried and have done a few times in the past, but the weird thing I don't want to stop. It offers me a strange feeling of comfort and contentment.

I always pick at the skin around my nails too, when they're natural. I discovered that when I get my nails done with acrylics, I don't pick at my skin anymore.
So when I feel like my hands are about to start looking really fucked up, I go and get my nails done :b
