Is it normal that i am a vegan?

This may seem like a silly question but I know that a lot of people think that being a vegan is a bad decision. I am vegan for the animals, and I do not think it's right to eat animals or their products. Why it's wrong to eat animals is obvious but I also feel it is wrong to drink milk and eat honey etc. because animals go through stressful situations to get milk from them and how would you feel if that was you? Also if being a vegan is healthy and there are many plant based sources of protein and iron, why do people still eat animals? I do not dislike non vegan people, I just want to know if this is normal.

    Laff,

Here's my take and it's very simple. Animals (we're all animals) have been eating other animals for millions of years, there is nothing wrong with EITHER approach.

We need protein for proper survival. The undisputed king of protein delivery is MEAT

Meat eating is biologically, genetically, historically, spiritually(in many cases) sound. Besides if you don't eat bacon, you are probably missing out on the most satisfying food .. ever.

The only dietary choice that doesn't work for is cannibalism. other than that, eat what you want, and as many many other are saying: Keep it to your damn self and don't infringe.

Humans have evolved with science to learn that not only can we get complete protein (all amino acids) from plant based sources but we can actually live healthier that way without the cholesterol heart disease diabetes cancer etc. to me it's an obvious choice to be vegan. We hAve the choice to be ethical, unlike other species. Why not take it? Obviously we vegans don't expect everything to be rainbows and lions will stop hunting zebras and shit but seriously if we humans can respect life by not taking it without necessity why wouldn't we?

Right but if we can meet that necessity with plants then it is not necessary to tortire and kill animals. So why not choose plants? If you have ever loved a dog or cat or pet then you intrinsically understand that but won't admit it.

My dad eats vegan, i eat 90% vegetarian. Only when i have not other options and Im literally dying of hunger I will eat meat.

I still like cheese and eggs so I personally don't want to eat vegan 100%

But probably over 50% of what I eat is vegan or with excluding a few dairy/egg products, could be prepared vegan

Its normal enough, though plenty of people will respond aggressively towards someone that doesn't eat meat, let alone vegan

You are a lovely person. I don't eat meat but don't object to meat eaters. What I do object to is the suffering and the way animals are killed. When a calf or other animal is removed from the mother they spend a long time calling and searching for their offspring. Meat is pumped full of antibiotics and hormones. There's a few people I would like to get my dentures into. Some people are just shits and we have to accept that.

I think you shouldn't make such an important decision based on your feelings. Do you realize that the clothes you wear are likely made by child workers in a distant poor country? Or that the land you're living on used to be occupied by someone else (if you're living in America.) (also buffaloes)
My point is, it is stupid to base your veganism on "oh, those poor animals!" Your actions are probably ruining an animal's life in ways you don't know. Just be vegan to be healthy, it makes more sense.

Veganism isn't healthy. As seen by the mentally unbalanced vegans posting here it creates mental illness 😂😂.

Veganism doesn't just create mental illness. Some people (like myself) aren't able to adjust to a no meat diet, and so some of them become depressed. It doesn't happen to everyone, so if they are fine with a vegan diet then that's it.
(Plus you can get protein from other foods like eggplant.)

You should go one step further and jump in a cage with a hungry lion. I wonder if they will have the same feelings for you?

Being a carnivore is natural. I kid above because people like you claim to be into nature and animals and everything and yet you willfully resist your natural urges and spit in the face of mother nature herself, by thinking you know better.

Ok I take it back, I'm not joking, get in the cage.

It's okay to be a vegan if you want, but its retarded because most of these animals are domesticated and are nothing like what they even used to be or look like for that matter in the wild... Seriously if everyone did that what do you think are going to happen to all of those animals? There'd be no more purpose for them. At this point eating them is ensuring their survival

    • Youngvictoria

Saying veganism is "retarded" is a real overstatement. The problem is in the ethics of how farmed animals are raised and contained. There is absolutely no respect for their quality of short life (aside from the very few small family owned farms that exist). Modern farming practices are absolutely horrific. Many people by the way enjoy owning cows chickens pigs sheep etc as pets. So there's another purpose if you believe all animals must have purpose.

      • nikkiclaire

I agree Industrial farming practices are atrocious. That has nothing to do with being vegan or vegetarian tho. Make the right choices and buy food from trusted sources.

Then get RSPCA approved products laws are being changed to make sure places are human in animal treatments. So people are supposed to have chickens as pets and not eat their eggs? Because everyone I know who has chickens eat the eggs and the chickens too sometimes. Do you know how many domesticated animal's there are? And what you think all these ranches with all that acreage will be able to just take on a shit ton of cows house them with all there massive acreage and afford somehow to magically feed them all with out income? They get the income to feed them by milking or slaughter. I swear you vegans live in fantasyland. Chickens as pets Ha! You think they put out money to feed them with nothing in return your dreaming... Shit not to mention the medical costs included. I'll tell you what they'd do they'd make sure they couldn't reproduce and let them all die off because it would be a massive drain to sustain them.

You are taking this very literally.
to clear things up, I think if in theory everyone were to eventually become vegan that would happen gradually and the population of farmed animals would decrease concurrently. It's economics 101, supply and demand. of course this is all hypothetical bc it's unlikely he entire human race will ever be vegan :) I assure you I don't live in a fantasy land! Nor do I own any pet chickens...just providing you with a secondary purpose to maintain that species and not let it go entirely extinct.

Exactly literally your living in fantasyland clearly. Of course you don't have pet chickens you don't eat eggs... and how xactly is the population going to decrease? Because they mate them to extinction. You tell me where any of these domesticated animals are out and about in the real world living a life of existence? Your in fantasyland just admit it.

I had a hard time following your last comment..but basically cows pigs sheep chickens etc would exist only as pets. Like horses. We don't eat horses but plenty of people keep them. And I know they can be used to ride but that's not actually a viable form of transportation in most parts of the world, they're just kept as pets

“I am vegan for the animals” > The animals don’t give a fuck that you’re vegan.
“Why it’s wrong to eat animals is obvious” > It isn’t obvious.
“Animals go through stressful situations…” > That can also be taken as a reason to reform the system, not abolish it.
“How would you feel if that was you?” > This is what vegans' arguments eventually come down to: an appeal to empathy. It’s an excess of empathy that causes veganism. Vegans will fare better with their argumentation if they understand that the reason many of us don’t have a problem with eating animals and animal products is because we’re not encumbered by excessive empathy, and that appeals to empathy should therefore be replaced by other rhetorical strategies.
“Being a vegan is healthy” > A diet low in meat is healthy. A vegetarian diet can be kept healthy if managed carefully. A vegan diet is probably only healthy over a short period and in the hands of the most obsessive orthorexic. I’ve watched several vegans proclaim it to be healthy and then wither over the years.

Is that a watertight case? Perhaps you've been managing your nutrition better than others. I've known four vegans who suffered health problems due to malnutrition within five years of going vegan, and both they and a further two looked like they had aged ten years in half the time. But as I suggested, an anecdotal numbers game won't produce a conclusive case.

I've known plenty of unhealthy non vegans too. Choosing to eat unhealthily has nothing to do with being vegan or not vegan. But it's a hell of a lot easier to make healthy choices when you are a vegan (less temptation, you cant eat fast food for example). I personally have never met one of these aged looking vegans. I'm thirty and constantly people think I'm still early 20s. Which is annoying but I am thankful that I'm healthy

Hi!! I'm a vegan too :-) and have been this way for 17 years!! I love being vegan and I'm really healthy. My husband is vegan too and he is muscular and looks great too! We eat whole unprocessed foods lots of grains and beans veggies and tons of fruit! I love this way of eating because it is easy and cheap and of course ethical for the animals and environment. Keep up what you are doing and lead by example! My husband was raised on a cattle farm and now he is vegan and we have really opened up his family's mind to accepting veganism (especially since cancer is a real problem for them with their meat centered diets) just by being positive about it and never trying to argue. Arguing never works with non vegans, just lead by example by showing others how healthy you are and how much you enjoy your lifestyle. It's also super important if you are invited to a meal to bring a tasty dish with you to show others that vegan food isn't just salad! I always bring my vegan version of corn Maque Choux since I'm Cajun and I like to show that I haven't given up my cultural heritage for veganism.

They are therefore an intricate part of the system to the way things work. The income produced affords the medical and food needs for these animals. If you can't grasp the concept you are retarded. Just fuckin be a vegan as a choice and stop acting like it makes you enlightened in some way, shape or form because it doesn't the intellegent agrugment is too the contrary of this bullshit for the animals clause. It's against them not for them. For them is to buy the expensive shit and boycott the arseholes who are being crewl to them which inturn makes the others have to change what they are doing.
