Is it normal that i am afraid of deep water

I am terrified of water when it starts reaching over my chest, I almost drown in the ocean when I was a wee girl, and never have I learned how to swim, so here is the weird question, is it normal to be terrified of deep water, if i even see it on TV? like the discovery channel when I see a whale flipping in the middle of the ocean, or his tail going down into the ocean, i quiver and feel i want to throw up and I HAVE to look away. so, is that normal? I even got a little scared when I saw Finding Nemo (amazing movie by the way) when they were at the drop off :/

I'm scared of all bodies of water. Thalassophobia it's called, but I don't know what the fear for deep water is. It's normal, painful at times. Painful when people misunderstand or make fun of you.

All continents are in water. You don't have to live near the water if you don't want. But don't live in a area like Florida or the Bahamas that prone to hurricanes and flooding.

No. Learn to swim. Go diving. Conquer your fear.
