Is it normal that i am frightened to fly?

So, as the title suggests, I am frightened to fly. Not just frightened, I would almost call it a phobia. My boyfriend is in America for 5 months, whereof 2 have passed by now. I am visiting him in December, which is only a small 2 months away from now. However, I live in the Netherlands and have to fly, alone, for a good 8 hours to get to him in December. And I am absolutely terrified. I can't stop thinking about it and I am convinced I will crash and die. It's so bad that I can't even think about having a good time with him, because I'm so convinced the plane will crash. And it's not just myself, every time my boyfriend flies (he's been flying all around America this summer) I am terrified not to hear from him because he crashed.

Is this normal? Do other people have fears like this or is this just me? Also, does anybody have any suggestions how to deal with this stress already 2 months before actually leaving?

Love, MyBoyfriendsDog

Flying is really not all that dangerous, but it's immensely tiring. All that flapping your arms, especially on the really long flights.
Really, you obviously have access to the internet. Check out the statistics on flying versus automobiles and you'll never get in a car again. Now THAT is something to be frightened about.

Flying is dangerous and scary and worst of all, they treat you like crap bordering on criminal. I avoid it at all costs.
