Is it normal that i am internet paranoid?

I don't trust anything on the net and I will not make any transactions online for fear of scam, identity theft, fraud etc. This is getting increasingly harder with many businesses going online and it sometimes makes my life hard. I have never bought anything online, I won't do any of my banking online for security fears. I know the skills of hackers. I have a conspiracy theory that the ones who make anti virus software create the virus's themselves in order to sell their product. The internet is so vast I think it just frightens me, you have to be careful in the real world, its a dog eat dog world and the internet is 100 times more fucked up than reality and this is at the root of this paranoia I think.

Being sensible is a very good thing, but I do think this is pushing it. There are places which are more trustworthy than others. Millions of people buy things without problems. Just make you go to the right places, which you can trust, and just make sure you don't do any of the things which you aren't supposed to, and you'll probably be fine.

It's the establishment you need to be more scared of. The internet allows for greater control of people than ever before and I genuinely fear people with certain types of politics using it for totalitarianism at some point in the next 50 years.

Yeah that's right there are parallells to the telescreens george Orwell used in his totalitarian cautionary novel 1984.

Hadn't crossed my mind for a while but yes. As well as monitoring our behaviour and feeding us propaganda, there's a further risk that Orwell didn't anticipate. Our membership of society and it's privileges (i.e. buying food manufactured by others, having water and energy piped to us) can already be controlled by the flick of a switch. Although it hasn't been used for controlling purposes, times change.

Online I give very little personal info about myself. Also I only go to places online which are insured. They have a safe buy label on both Ebay and Amazon. It says if you do not get your item or the item is broken or not what you orders you can return it for a full refund. Ebay/Amazon will pay back your money if you have any complaints. I do not do banking online either for this reason. I in fact had a virus on my computer that was stealing my information and my passwords. Thankfully I do not do anything important online. When I buy things its with an unregistered card. The most they could find from my computer is my age and what websites I been on. Nothing that really matters. I do not have a lot of money credit cards so its not like I have a lot to rob. I have very little of value so I doubt anyone wants to steal from me anyways.
