After I feel a bit more comfortable with the girl, like as a friend, I kind of tell them that I like socks and sometimes say things like "If you don't need your socks anymore, can I have them". So far I've got 2 pairs of girl's socks.
Is this normal?

I'm a little confused. Here's why.
If my boyfriend wanted my socks for sex stuff, I'd be cool with that. If my friend wanted my socks for non-sex stuff - like art, or a collection, or something? - I'd be cool with that, too. If a non-sexual friend of mine wanted my socks for sex stuff, I would be pretty uncomfortable.
So I suppose my reply is not normal/not normal, but instead the suggestion that you make sure your sock suppliers know what you do with them (you didn't specify sex stuff or not). I'm of the opinion that you should do whatever you want as long as you don't hurt anyone. So as long as your sock girls know what's up, I think you're fine.
