Is it normal that i believe in god but hate organised religion?

I've always hated church, I don't like being told what to do and if don't do it i'll suffer, I also always hated doing confession and all that stuff.
I also hate the history of churches, i've never read the bible but it's written by man and it's obviously been modified by man so I don't trust it.

However, I do believe that there is something out there watching over me, and i've had alot of experiences where I believe God has helped me out, even if it's just a tiny matter I've never been let down.

Is this normal?

Simple answer: Everyone hates what they don't know.

If you get to know a truth about Jesus and what the Bible says, AND read the King James Version which has more original test to avoid alot of the Bible tampering like you said, you'd be more content.

Dont let the church people/vibe discourage you. Your there to praise God, their opinions dont matter as much unless God uses them to tell you.

I follow what I believe even if its not a "religion", it serves the same purpose in my life

  • Yeah..I incorporate more philosophical thought in my own beliefs. Reading a book of metaphores, stomping your foot and claiming everything in it is literal absolute fact is absurd.

I think when most people say they hate religion but love God miss the point of religion. Dogma and doctrine have become dirty words but in reality are very beautiful things. A doctrine can be seen as similar to a scientific law where no matter how much you hate gravity and dislike it you can do nothing about it. Gravity just is there is no arguing. This is dogma, for example a dogma could be there is a God. You wouldn't dispute that. Dogma gives us foundation and church is a foundation for you to grow upon with others. In community we become closer to God. You can come to God alone but for the average person it is hard and you become lacking in your faith.

I will give you this that people with religion do bad things but religion in it of itself does not. Quote a passage in any holy book that orders its priests to steal from the church coffers and to lie and cheat. Don't hold your breath on it, religion brings many things to the table and labeling religion as the problem and not the people is not only ignorant but also illogical. If a distant family member of yours was a militant racist would I be right in assuming you were too? Absolutely not we forget that people are individuals and do what they do.

I will pray for you friend, I hope you will come around to religion.

I would consider myself to be a deist, too. I don't know if I could say that "god" has intervened per se anywhere in my life, but there have been some things that have seemed too unlikely to have been a coïncidence.

Everyone in this world is entitled to their own belief and to practice that belief accordanly. I don't go to church because I too don't like the church setting, but my daughter attends church every week and loves it. There most definetly is some thing out there.....I don't know what but its beautiful. Read the book " THE SHACK".

I don't really understand how you can hate religion, never even read the Bible and don't trust it, but still believe in God.

You can hate the what people have done in the past in the name of their "religion", you can hate the leaders of a religion, but you can't believe in the Christian God without believing in Christianity.

Do other people really think that? I think that's weird.

The OP didn't say they believed in the Christian god, only that they believe there is a god watching over them. I can understand rejecting the mythology of various organised religions but still having a sensation that there is something greater out there. It's a fairly simple idea to grasp.

Well, I don't get it. I don't get how one can dismiss all organized religion, and still believe in a higher power.I don't understand how someone can dismiss organized religions like Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, and still believe in some sort of higher being. I don't believe that someone can hate religion, and still love God, or believe that some sort of higher power exists.

Yeah it's messed up. The only reason anyone believes in god is because christians raped the world about 500 years ago. If the bible and the church didn't exist, no one would believe in god.
