Is it normal that i believe that we don't truly die?

I believe that even when we die, we continue living in the spiritual sense until we can live a new physical life.

It's normal to think that, it comes down to how you define "death", for example I think we "die" at the end of our mortal existence here, but then we move into the afterlife (the Summerland in me case) where we live another life after our death, our we reincarnate and be reborn.

A lot of people believe that. There's so many different beliefs about the afterlife, yours couldn't possibly be weird. We all speculate different things, because we don't truly know what happens.

Reincarnation. Totally normal to think like that.

Everybody is entitled to their own belief.

Just as much as everybody is entitled to hear from me that their belief is totally bullshit.

Do you think there is an eternal heaven or hell?

The world is itself an eternal heaven or eternal hell, and it's all up to us to keep it as heavenly as possible. Governments see to it that this never happens.

I think i would be nice, but i find that hard to believe. I think that when we die, were gone, that's it. Everything that makes up who we are is in our brain, our senses, our conscience, our memories...When we die, our brain dies, and so were gone with it.

I believe this too, but my ego is discontent with the ever increasing probability that I will not exist after death. That gets me thinking though too, if I don't exist after I die, does that mean that I'm only me in this exact life? What I'm getting at is.... What if your exact life just repeats on and on forever. As soon as you die, your born again. Because, if you do not exist outside of this life, then this life could be all that exists.

I know what you meant about that discontent. I hope I have the hope of an afterlife as I'm elderly. I don't care if it's stupid, it would be nice. Then again it's not the end of the world if it is the end of the world--you'll be dead. I get jealous of the future. However, I don't think it's anything as bizzarre as your repeating life scenario, or some other trippy outcome. I used to suffer with all kinds of outcomes my horrificly capabable imagination seemed to come up with. It was all too trippy. As you may realize I used to trip a lot....but I don't know if that's what's done that kind of thing to you.

I am a Christian and believe that the soul can survive even death and spend the rest of eternity in heaven or hell depending on whether they were a good or bad person in life

Consciousness(or the soul if you prefer) is energy, and energy can neither be created nor destroyed. After we die, our energy will return to the greater consciousness(nature), and so in that sense, we never die.

      that is true,

and once this day has all passed away,
one day when there's no longer such thing as a day
the fact that we stood here this day in the hall
      the fact that it happened
      is all and all......

Yeah some people believe in an afterlife or reincarnation.

I think there's no evidence for this whatsoever so there's really no reason for me to believe in it. Death is the great unknown. But each to their own.

There's plenty of evidence, it's just that people who don't believe there is a life after death don't look into it. Look up Near Death Experiences, there are so many of them recorded that it can't just be a coincidence.

unless you attribute such things to chemical states including medicines used by surgeons and paramedics, and those caused by the injuries or body shutdown that accompanies death. Or the capability to dream.

So you believe we die and become reincarnated as human babies, animals and other such creatures? Yeah some people have this belief.

  • It's a concept I can wrap my mind around. I'm four and a half decades through this life and look back at all the bad decisions I've made.

I'd love the chance to try it again. One lifetime doesn't allow enough time to learn life's lessons.

Stick to the definition. Death happens. Beyond is something else.
