Is it normal that i believe the legal adult age shouldn't be 18?

Before you call me an idiot and judge my view please listen first. I don't think one should be an "Adult" once they hit 18. Why? Well, for starters they're still developing at that age, it has the word "Teen" in it, they're most likely still emotionally immature, they're still learning about themselves, and they're still living with their parents at that point (It's only due to new social norms that kids move out at 18). I just don't think that 18 and 19 yr olds should be called "Grown-Ups". Another problem with this is that they can go die in a war but at those ages (Even 20!) they can't even drink. I'm sorry. But you can't be an adult if you can't even drink or smoke by the time you hit your late teens. The legal adult age should be 21 or 20.

Very difficult to gauge what is deemed what is an appropriate age of maturity as it can vary among sexes and even among every individual.

My opinion though is to keep the adult age at 18 and streamline the age restrictions to 18, i.e as Avant-Garde having the drinking age at 18 too.

It is 20-21 in parts of the world.
In Singapore, it is 21. In Japan and Taiwan it is 20.

Well, I read a recent science article that stated that we don't actually reach maturity until around 25 or so. To me, that's a fair enough age for everything: driving, drinking, owning a home, etc. Can't have mentally immature 16 year olds risking people's lives on the road.

Considering people 18 and older as adults was likely based on generalisation, probably one which does need updating. People appear to be emotionally less capable nowadays when compared to the past.

I would prefer it to be 25 and initial "school based" education extended until the age of 21, the first few years of university quality education taught in schools and diversified from the crap kids are taught now.

Its not social norms. Its called the law. At 18 your parents are not required to take care of you. So they either kick you our or you move out. in most cases.

Do you realize how much homeless youth there is because of this rule? Government assumes that parents are going to pay a child's school/university and make sure they are prepared at 18 but unless law says so they have to they don't have to do anything.

Its sad the government is stupid enough to assume people are going to be responsible without a law requiring it. People don't give a shit about responsibility if they know they can get away with it otherwise.

Also you must be American since Europe has drinking law at 18. If you are going to set the legal age of drinking to 21 you should at least require parents pay a kids college/university till 21.

It also makes things like getting a well paying job when you cant drink till 21. Since stuff like cop jobs pay very good money and you don't need a lot of schooling to get one. Just a good background.

Am i to understand your drinking/smoking argument so that if the government sets the age at which you're allowed to drink at, say, 25, then the legal adult age should be 25?
In other countries, you don't have to be 21 to (be allowed by the government to) drink.

No. What they should do is lower the drinking age to match the legal age.
