Is it normal that i can't afford to further my education?

I am a 19 year old girl who lives at home while my mother pays for me to go to a community college. She often makes me feel uncomfortable and unwanted around the house, and acts as if it were my fault that I am lingering in my hometown and not at some pricey institution.

At my college, not only do I feel that the classes are shamefully easy, but I realize that the students do not have the same passion that I do for learning. I plan on transfering to a better college away from my unstable mother through a program which grants a break on tuition after this year, but I can not stand wasting away much longer as I wait.
There is no guarantee that she will continue to be able to pay for my schooling, so should I just get a full time job and get my degree in my own time even though I really want to be learning?

  • Yes it is normal that you cannot afford to continue your education even though you would like to. Many people are in the same position. Why not get a part-time job and go to school at the same time? Lots of students do that.

I couldn't afford college, so I joined the military. Now I'm in college (finally), and while the bulk of it is paid for I still have to work part-time to make ends meet during break and stuff. It's definitely normal, college is insanely expensive!

Do it. I am working full time and going to college full time. It is a huge pain in the ass and it makes life difficult, but you can do it and you should.

Go for it. I'm doing my second degree at the moment whilst also working full time so i's a big committment, both financial and time, but you only get one life, make the most of it.

As I used to tell my daughter, "it's never to late, unless you're dead".
She just graduated college. Had to move to another state so she could afford it. California sucks with tuition fees. Has a full time job in the field she was studying.
Get out there! Do it! Come on now, head up high, shoulders back, take a deep breath and do it!
