Is it normal that i can't wake up from my nightmares?

Sometimes I'll have these crazy nightmares that I can't wake up from. Its the scariest thing I've had to live through. I don't know if I 'll grow out of them either... I just wanted to know if it's normal to not wake up. I'm 18, if it helps

I wish I could help but I'm a lucid dreamer. I believe there is a book out there that can teach you how to become a lucid dreamer. That's my best advice.

if im having a shit nightmare i kill myself in my dream and wake up, I usually imagine a bridge or tall building and just run off it. sometimes screaming and spinning in circles usually wakes me up aswell

I kinda think it's just better not to wake up, man. Everytime I wake up from a nightmare, everything sounds creepy, the sound of the wind scares me, my mom scares me, my dad scares me, my CELLPHONE scares me!!! My point: I'm most mentally vulnerable when I wake up in middle of a nightmare.
So I just kinda think it's better to get through whatever it is and then wake up.

personally i can wake myself up from any unpleasant dreams, but from what ive gathered its not exactly a common skill. so yes, unfortunately, that's normal

If they are just unpleasant dreams , try to over come the fear of what happens in them . If these are night terrors , see a doctor about it .

Certainly you can grow out of them. Is there something that's really bothering you?

Not really. I've had them for about 4 years though

Well, yeah it is. Studies say that nightmares are more frequent in children, but, still. On the other hand, perhaps these nightmares reflect some sadness in your current life. It's not the nightmares but how frequent they happen my indicate that.

Also, in some religions, frequent nightmares is one of the symptoms of demon possession, besides other symptoms. (Just felt like mentioning all my thoughts.) Hope I helped. :)
