Is it normal that i cover my web cam when i'm not using it?

I'm afraid people can see me even when it's not on... is this normal?

    Ive actually heard that hackers can tap into your computer & web cam...so yes! Very normal...I have a web cam built into my lap top, so I just keep it closed when not using it.

    yeah, you can actually get spyware for that. of course, its illegal to spy on others trough the webcam, but that dosent stop some people. so, Yeah, its a good idea to either cover it, or if its detachable, to unplug it. In a world where your personal info can be had with a few strokes of a lawyer's pen, you'd best be careful.

    Agreed with Mel. Your cam cam be accessed without your knowledge.

    Back a decade ago when I used one, on the desktop, I would always keep the thing turned around facing the wall with a washcloth over it.

    As for the one built in to the laptop-- I use a sticky felt pad (found in the crafts dept.) and just stick it right over it. I tested it by turning on the cam and it just looks black.

    Omg! I'm the same way! Because this one time I could still hear this persons voice after I clicked off the video chat so now I'm paranoid..
