Is it normal that i'd chose my dog over my nephew?

Okay,
he isn't born yet, so who know, my life of hating small crying disgusting little things may change when he is (Unlikely but you never know)

My older half sister (Huge age gap as well, mom was still in highschool when she had her) is knocked up and keeping the kid.

I was talking about my apartment and getting something new for my dog and she brought up something about her kid being near him, as if i'm obligated to look after the little shit. I said i don't want her kid near my dog, kids pull tails, freak animals out and cause trouble.

She insisted that clearly the baby was more important and in that case i'd have to close the dog in the spare room... I not so nicely (should have been nicer but she was pissing me off) pointed out that the dog came first in my place.

She then went off about how it's just a dog and obviously the baby is better and matters more.

I held off telling her that in a fire i would sooner save my dog than the unborn little bastard.

Is that normal? I really hate kids, which i know is pretty common so i'm not asking about that, but specifically, is it normal that i'd sooner save my dog then her little thing?

I can understand where your coming from.
Hopefully she'll understand how much the dog means to you and you both can find a balance whenever the two are near each other. I think It'd be alot easier to buy a play pin to put the kid in instead of locking a dog up. Less depressing for both. The baby can still be in the open but won't be able to harm the dog while inside the gate.

    Hope everything works out.
    Toodles.

There is nothing wrong with hating kids, but there is something VERY WRONG with thinking the life of a dog is of equal value with that of a human, especially that of an innocent child.

What's more, if there were a disaster, a fire, for example, and you saved the dog and allowed a child to die, you could be prosecuted for involuntary manslaughter and, depending on where you live, possibly depraved indifference to human life.

You need to get counseling because unless you change your way of thinking, someone -- probably your half-sister -- is going to get fed up with your attitude and kill or badly injure your dog -- and it will be YOUR FAULT for acting like an idiot!

in your case i think its normal to be more emotionally attached to your dog than to some bastard that aint born...just give it time and im sure you like the kid, but never let them kick your beloved canine companion out!

    Wow Amazing story.

Hating kids is pretty common with people who have serious mental issues.

If you rather save a dog from a fire and let a little baby burn to death, then you're not worth a shit. And trust me the dog "an animal" would risk his life to save the baby, so the dog deserves more respect than you.

That's not normal, but don't worry you're probably still young and will change you're mind as you grow up.
