Is it normal that i desperatley need people to like me?

I need everyone to like me. Even if the person comes out and tells me they hate me I do everything in my power to get them to like me. I become the biggest suck up ever to get them to like me. I go as far as buying them gifts, writing them notes and good well cards if they're sick. I even can't get sleep at night because I am up thinking about how I can make that person like me. It is like this with everyone I come in contact with even people who I will never see again. Is this normal?

    people like you more when they don't think you are somebody who they can use. They only will pretend to like you so they can get things from you.
