Is it normal that i detest the music around now?

I literally hate the music around now. It is, to me, devoid of any real meaning and just generic often sexual crap. I prefer 80s music and 90s music. Songs then had proper lyric and real feelings not just empty sex. Anyone agree?

If you're listening to the radio then that's no surprise that you'd say that. Compared to the past the amount is low, sure, but there is still a bunch of music nowadays that is profound in lyrics, meaning as well as musical elements

Totally agree. But I sort of came of age in the 70s. Neil Young, Jackson Browne, Joni M. etc. Hippie communes (late sixties leftover), smoking twenty dollar four finger "lids". Skinny dipping . . . ah, memories. So dude I feel you about this total horse dung they call music today. Thank God Cat Stevens still has his old videos playing on you tube.

You're normal ... except you limit yourself to 80s and 90s. You should check out the 60s and 70s!

I can't stand it! It has no value or meaning. Most of it is repetitive. It doesn't help that most of the people singing have no talent whatsoever and are just autotuned. Even my little sister who is 12 and hasn't even been ALIVE when the better music was around hates today's music.

The late eighties and early nineties had terrible, terrible pop music: those slow, saccharine R'n'B ballads, that annoying New Jack Swing stuff with the same bell synth in every song, and generic Latin Freestyle. Pop music was great in the mid-late nineties though, but it got bad again around 2000 and then terrible again around 2008. Some of the synth pop of the early eighties was OK, and I definitely didn't mind the New Wave stuff in the mid eighties. There's a lot of good music if you broaden your horizons a little, but I agree the most of the top 40 stuff today is unlistenable.

As for lyrics? Pop lyrics have always been pretty bad. If you're listening to pop music for the words, um...

Even though the pop music was catchy in the late nineties, the lyrics of those lolita songs like "You Drive Me Crazy" by Britney or whatever were sad.

  • There is a ton of amazing music coming out now and that has been out. You aren't digging beneath the surface.

That's too general, you might just listen to a lot of pop or rap.
There's plenty of music out there at this very moment that has good meaning. You just have to look for it...or make your own :P
