Is it normal that i don't add fb friends if i've never met them?

Many of my friends have hundreds of friends on their friendlist. Me, I have less than 200. I only add people that I actually know and have met outside of Facebook and am familiar with, I know who they are before I add them.

A lot of my friends add anybody and then get pissed when those people comment on their statuses or say "OMG who r u?" even though they added them. I don't do this so I don't have to worry about it and I wonder why my friends add any and everybody.

I moved around a lot as a kid and as a result, have friends in many different states and Facebook makes it easy to keep in touch with everybody, from many of the social circles I have associated with.
is it normal that I only add people that I know?

  • I have moved around the UK all my life, and I knew about 300 people and had them on Facebook. I moved again, and I decided to delete everyone except for a few. I only have about ten people on my friends list now (going to be shorter soon).

Most of them were amazingly annoying, deleting them was good.

That's very smart of you. A tip for your friends would be to set privacy settings allowing who would see what.

Unless I know the person, and have a personal problem, I find myself adding pretty much anybody that requests to be my friend. I have had a few "headaches" over it though!

I've got just under 100 Facebook friends. I sort of know all of them but some of them I've never even spoken to, either online or in real life. I don't turn people down who go to the same school as me and are in the same year as me regardless of how well I really know them, because I think it's still worth adding people who you'll probably have to come into contact with in the future.

Once I went on a friendship massacre of about 20 people who I didn't really want to have added on Facebook, and it made a lot of them dislike me in real life and made me feel awkward. I wouldn't want to do that again :P

I only use it to chat with about 10 to 20 people, and to exchange schoolwork. I could dispense with most of my "friends" without directly inconveniencing myself.

Completely normal, it feels nearly like myspace when people add a ton of complete randomers.

Am I still the only person to never have had, and never will have a facebook? I am superior-ior-ior-ior!!! (That was an echo, don't know how it happened)

The echo came from the gaping chasm in your life where Facebook should be. :P

Why do you have to be disrespectful? :(

I do the same thing. My friends list maxes out at about 60.

It's a wise policy. When I used Facebook I had one person from down south who I'd never actually met but we got along so well, we felt like friends. I didn't regret adding her.

However, I also added someone with the same name as me (he asked). All was fine at first but then he start posting profile pics of himself semi-naked. Then it got worse.

It would have been bad enough to have someone with my name having pics like that, but he kind of looked vaguely like me as well. Some people thought I had made a fake account so that I could then post these pics and expose myself to friends. I was a laughing stock for a while. It only occurs to me now that it may have secretly been one of my mates having a joke with me. That's the sort of thing they'd do.

It's totally normal. I did the same too with mine. It's also safer. You don't have strangers you don't 'know know' poking their noses into business that has nothing to do with them or them stalking your every personal post. lawl.
