Is it normal that i don't like being touched by a dog's nose?

My mom has a new puppy. He's always either wiping his nose on my legs or licking me and it really pisses me off. I can't stand any kind of nasty dog mucous on my skin, and when it happens I curse loudly and go wash off in the bathroom.

My mom yells at me and tells me that I'm being abusive. Am I?

I don't like dogs, and this one has been known to eat other animals' turds outside. Don't I have the right to feel disgusted?

    Ugh yeah, gross.

And abusive? What the hell. I think your mum has been watching too many talk shows.

    • She favors dogs over her own children, so it's no wonder.

You get used to it. For me, the temperature of a dog's nose is the negative. By contrast, being sniffed by a cat is one of the nicest things in the world. They're so delicate about it.

    • I used to hate it when the cat did that, too. But now that the dog came along, I don't even notice anymore, lol. Dogs are much wetter and sloppier.

A cats nose is damp compared to a dog.

    • I like dogs; just not as pets. They're not something that I'd want in my house, if I had a choice. They smell like rotten eggs to me.

I know. Me either. And my dog was the main one to smell you and put his nose and tongue right on you. I used to hate. Miss it now that he's gone though :(

    • I know how you feel. Our first dog passed away a couple of years ago. And while she didn't do the nose thing, I miss her so much, and I don't care about the annoying things she did anymore.

My dog loves kissing! We thought it was cute when they wrote that by her cage. Little did we know she practically does it any chance she gets. She's a drive by licker. I don't really mind it much since she's a smaller dog, it isn't as slobbery, but when I'm trying to do something and she keeps licking my hand it can get annoying. She actually gets pretty pissed off sometimes if you don't let her. She'll stretch on you (like she's giving a hug) and then paw at your mouth and try to lick you.

Whenever he does it just firmly tell him no. Hopefully he'll learn that you don't like it but if other people in the house encourage that behavior he might think it's okay with you.

It's normal and like dappled said, you'll get use to it. When I first got my dog, he'd put his wet nose on me and it would make feel disgusted. Now a couple of years later, I've gotten used to it. I think it's cute for the most part and rarely do I wash myself off.

  • OP here. I do not scream at the dog. I tell him "no", "don't", and "stop". I swear, but not AT HIM.

I have the right to walk around my own house, just as I do to feel disgusted by something rubbing its slime all over me.

Comments by people that continue to harass me will continue to be hidden. Deal with it.
