Is it normal that i don't like dogs

This is a story about why I don't like dogs. Please listen, try not to judge, think about what you'd do in my situation. (BTW, yes my mom my brother and I live in the same house as my aunt. In case that isn't apparant by reading the rest of the story.)

My brother wanted a dog. My mom said he could have one, but she was really busy and couldn't take him anywhere to find one. So, my aunt took him instead.

When the dog was older, she had puppies. My aunt refused to give them away. When the puppies were older, they mated with neighbors' dogs and their own litermates and we had still more puppies to deal with. Fortunately, my aunt realized it would be better to give the pups away.

So we tried giving the pups away. We ended up keeping 2 more. And, of course, when those pups grew up there were more.... and more.... and it's been a steady stream of mutt mania ever since.

My aunt keeps six grown dogs in the house. Currantly two of those have puppies. A total of about 14 pups altogether. (About 3 of which are biting my ankles and tearing my pant legs as I write this. I'd kick them away but they'd just come back and my aunt would start screaming at me for it.)

The grown dogs aren't completely house trained, so they poop and pee wherever they please. They wake me up at any hour of the night to be let outside. So, I'll get up and go to the door. But when I open it, the fu@*$#g mutt turns back the other way to go mess on the floor!

And of course, they get special privileges. My aunt gives them bits of her food off her plate so now they think they can climb up and steal food from anyone's plate! And if you stop them or yell "BAD DOG!" they'll stare at you and beg and whine and whatever else they can do to try to get you to share. They've also been known to hover over the plate and drool.

They think they can sleep on anybody's bed and start a chorus of whines if you shove them off.

They also yap at every car that drives past. And if my aunt is away for any length of time and comes back, they all start yapping at once; the ones inside jump up in the windows to try to be the first to see her. The ones outside go to the very end of their chains practically strangling themselves yapping and trying to get at her. They automatically think she's brought them a "treat" for being "good dogs!" Good dogs? THERE'S NO SUCH THING!

Aside from my personal disdain for dogs, I know we can't afford them. Right now, my mom and my aunt are both unemployed. We CANNOT afford trips to the vet, or tons of dog food or special treats and the like. We can't give them all the attention they require either. I know this isn't fair to them, I'm not completely mean and heartless. I'm just going CRAZY!

Whenever I say anything to my mom or my aunt about the dogs, they won't listen, or they'll try to make me seem like the bad guy. I really don't know what to do.

So, this has been a plea for help as much as it's been a rant. PLEASE help me figure things out.....

You don't hate dogs. You hate irresponsible pet owners. Spay and neuter first, always

I don't really like dogs. My mom breeds dogs, so growing up I had to deal with incessant barking, dog poop; etc. They aren't my thing...

I do not like dogs anymore because of a similar stuation. I rented a house years ago with a roommate. The contract specifically said 'no pets'. After a few months I asked the landlord if I could get a kitten they agreed. I told my roommate and she immediately said if I could have a kitten she could have a puppy. I told her to check with the landlord since it was a contractual issue, but she didnt. Long story short-- two years later and I still only had 1 cat, and her 1 puppy grew into 5 dogs. All pitbulls and dobermans. Ridiculous. The house reeked of shit, the dogs destroyed everything in the house except for my room. I bought a door lock and confined myself and my cat to our one room. My other roommate who was finishing up his Med school residency ended up getting an upper respiratory infection and pneumonia from the other roommates' unsanitary living conditions because of all the damn dogs. She literally let those dogs in his room to roll all over and sleep in his bed. Then she would close the door before he got home and laugh about it like it was a joke. It was SICK. Its been some years later and she still collects dogs and her current living conditions are still FILTHY. i still have my cat, my other roommate has no pets. But, I am scarred from dogs after that experience. So, I dont blame you.

cats can mess up a place too.so i'd think twice before taking a cat to your new place, if I were you. if it has any smells of another animal. a cat especially male cats can really mess thing up by spraying all over. i had a male cat that sprayed everywhere.

    • Yes, I'm plenty "old". I just turned 25. And I am moving out. I hope to get into my new place as soon as possible, but I found out a few days ago that it might be another two months before everything falls into place.

The only animal I'm taking with me is my 2 year old cat. However, my aunt wants to "introduce" the dogs to the new house. WTF! It's like I have no say in it.

See, my other aunt moved to Montana. She's a doctor a had to find somewhere to complete her residency. (Btw, she's very clean and has no animals.) So, she said I could live in her house. She's letting me rent it from her.

Anyhow, she's okay with my 1 cat. However, she doesn't want any dogs there. So, she's the owner and doesn't want dogs there. I'm going to be the only tenant and I don't want dogs there... Does anyone else make the connection? Aka: NO DOGS ALLOWED!

I don't know what I can do about it. My aunt (the dog freak one) swears they won't make any messes.... Just like when we moved to this house she swore they wouldn't make any messes....

I don't know if I'll ever get away from it.....

Oh God I can't stand it. The lady that said you should grow up and help is CRAZY - in my opinion. I hate dogs with a passion and have had similar experiences to you. It's not okay to keep pets when you can't afford them. It's especially not ok to make people feel like pets are more important than people! Pets are NOT a part of your family - they are PETS. Don't get me wrong, I love having pets, but too many people treat them like people, and they're not! No one should make the mistake of favoring a dog or dogs over the people in the house. You are being abused by your aunt and mother. As I said, I went through similar circumstances and have had to discuss it in counseling. Make no mistake about it, though many will say I'm nuts for saying it, it is absolutely an abusive situation. It sounds to me like your mother and aunt are trying to fill a void in their hearts by going so nutsy-cuckoo about the dogs. The dogs, too, are being abused if they are allowed to behave this way and no one bothers to spay or neuter them. Those two women are using the dogs as anti-depressants and you are stuck in the middle.

Are you sure your aunt's and mother's relationship with these dogs (specifically the intact males) is normal? I think it's time for a hidden nanny cam in their bedrooms and if you discover what I THINK you will discover, you can say "Get rid of the dogs"! or "I call the police!"

What I would like to know is if the aunt and mother are both unemployed, how are they feeding and caring for 14 or more dogs? I'll bet they feed their kids cold cereal for breakfast and oatmeal for dinner but buy the top brand dog food.

If they can't afford to have their animals spayed and neutered, then they can't afford to have animals. If you can't afford a vet, you can't afford a pet. Another thing, people who don't know how to train dogs not to crap in the house have no business having dogs.

I'll bet these two women are as filthy in their personal habits as their dogs are because a "clean" person would refuse to live in a house full of dog crap. It also wouldn't surprise me if they aren't both having "relations" with the male dogs and that's why they haven't gotten them neutered.

  • I just wanted to say that the last 6 comments here that are from "anonymous story author" are NOT mine! I don't know who could've hacked into my account to write them unless it was a site administrator or someone here at my house (aka: my aunt!) Sorry if this caused any confusion.

I train my dogs, I feed them, I care for them, they protect me, I protect them, They are part of our lives, From what I can tell you're not a dog person. A dog is going to bark to warn you of an approaching stranger. If you don't like them get another house or appartment.
As you have told us above you don't have a job, you say you are poor and if you do move to another house its porbably going to be just like the one you're in now. filthy. And no dog to protect you you are so going to get robbed!

Try taking care of the children you brought into this world, Dog Freak! It's your duty to provide those children with a clean, comfortable environment, not a filthy, shit-littered dog house!

  • you should be thankful your Aunt is willing to take care of them & not abandon them like so many people do. your mom & aunt at least have a heart, God Bless their soul.love comes in many shapes & sizes,Two & four legged. maybe one or more of your aunts dogs are one of your loved ones reincarnated.

  • as for you other people who have replied to this story why don't you mind your own business. & not worry about other peoples problems. i'm sure theres a reason behind all of this. dogs make better friends & companions than most people. maybe your mom & aunt could use some help from you not complaints .as for the 14 puppies you mentioned, they'll be gone b 4 you know it.keep an upper stiff lip & suck it up! don't be so quick to judge other people for the way they live theres alot of us DOG people out there.maybe you should offer them some financial help.

  • is there a reason you can't help your mom & aunt? are you totally helpless? why not offer to have one or two dogs spayed or neutered. if your mom & aunt are unemployed at least offer some help, cause there might be a problem. you just don't give up family pets.GROW UP!!!!!

Shame on You for pretending to be the author of this story. The author of this story is probably a minor and has no money to spay or neuter animals and it is NOT his/her place to clean up shit from a bunch of filthy dogs that the mother and aunt choose to keep in the house. What he should do is poison the dogs. The mother and aunt are so stupid they would never figure out what happened. If the author chooses not to kill the fleabags, he should do like another person said and contact child protective services.

If anyone on this site needs to get a life and mind their own business, it is YOU, Imposter!

  • Ok, I talked to my mom and realized that I left a few things out of my story. First, obviously, the pups are being given away in a few more weeks. Second, my mom and aunt do try to clean up as much as they can.

Still though, who can keep up with so many dogs? They'll get one room clean and all the rest (including the one they just cleaned) will be filthy again!

My mom and aunt see absolutely no problem with anything. I actually got in trouble for writing this!

Thank you all for your suggestions so far.

You don't say how old you are, but if you're a minor, I have a suggestion. Contact a guidance counselor, or better, whatever child protective services is called in your state, and report the filthy living conditions, etc. Or, if you don't want to make your aunt angry, get an adult to report the situation.

The conditions you are living in with all those fleabags crapping and pissing all over the place are unsanitary and unhealthy. It's a miracle all the humans living in that filth aren't already sick!

Spay and neuter for sure. Also if you don't train an animal it will be aweful. Especially it it feeds off the pack mentality and they all are untrained. Sounds like they are breeding like uncontrolled people living in poverty all over the world. Creates problems for everyone.

Well, first spay and neuter. Next, I agree with the above poster. Call your local SPCA. Your aunt sounds like a hoarder.

  • i've been where you are, & i would just like to say insted of all this complaining why not lend a helping hand. Maybe, just maybe your mom & aunt could use your help. why don't you try to see things their way. or doing other things around the house to help them. that way maybe if they had a little more time on their hands they could think of something else to do with the dogs.I'm sure the puppies are going to be giving away as soon as they are old enough. be patient, & try to be a little understanding. love & caring is what everyone needs.Try it, its good for the soul. AND the puppies areonly babies & babies need love . two or four legged.

I think you're either the mother or aunt of the child who posted this story. If so, you are unfit to raise a child and I hope someone reports you to child protective services. The ones in your home that need love and protection are the children, not the filthy, 4-legged shit machines.

If you spent your time studying English grammar instead of hoarding and cleaning up after filthy, shitting dogs, you probably wouldn't both be unemployed. I don't know which one of the sorry, worthless adults you are, but neither one of you is worth two hoots in Hell and the world, and the children in that house, would be better off without either of you!
