I'm 25. When I was around 18, it seemed like there were tons of other 18-year- old's everywhere (not just my classmates.) Now I feel like I don't see anyone my age at all, unless I go to a bar. Even at jobs I've had, everyone had been around the 18-20 year old bracket or at least in their 40's. Why is this?
I despise people my own age too.
They all think they are better than me.
I just turned 19, and for some reason, I just seem to gravitate toward people older than me. Almost everyone I know (not counting my siblings and parents) is at least 7 years older than me. The non-relatives that I'm closest to tend to fall in the range of being 10 to 60 years older than I am.
Are you in a gateway job? The kind of job that people get when leaving school until something better comes along? They naturally have a surfeit of younger employees who then leave naturally (which gives a dip in twentysomethings and thirtysomethings). The people who never find something else just stay on for life, explaining the older people there.
That's a very good point. I worked lots of crappy retail jobs, so I guess you could classify those as gateway jobs.
Don't take it as a true answer. It's just something that occurred to me based on my own employment history. My first and second jobs were at a bingo hall and an all-night petrol station. Everyone was either 18, like me, or in their fifties or sixties. Nobody in their twenties or thirties worked there.

im only 16 and i notice this to. (i work with wild animals) people at my work are between 18 and 23 something
maybe they are up to something! who knows

i am a 24yo and i hang out with a 40+ and some of them very fun to be around more than ppl of my age.
