    WATCHING = BORING
    Who care's what people you don't know do!

    PLAYING = FUN
    Doing anything physical that takes skill and effort is fun, whether it's competitive or not, so long as it challenges oneself!

    GAMING = FUN
    Video games are fun because there are clearly defined goals which require skill to achieve. Playing against the computer, yourself, or others is still a challenge, and surmounting challenges are always fun.

    THEORIES
    A. MANY people fake enjoying watching sport to be able to bond / be closer to others that they believe enjoy watching sport.

    B. People also fake it from peer pressure or because they think it's normal to.

    C. People enjoy watching sports because it distracts them from their own lives and routing for a team means when the team succeeds, vicariously they themselves feel like they've achieved something, and in their lives this happens too seldom, so they take what victories they can.

    SUMMARY
    Why would watching strangers have fun be fun... I don't think it intrinsically is. We have to fool ourselves.

    I think the Olympics would have been a great thing for this country if it wasn't for the whole austerity thing.
    Ridiculous how the BBC is trying to make us think that everyone supports it and that it will bring positive economic benefits for the whole country. Do they think we're stupid?

    THAT'S HORRIBLE!!! You disgust me, not giving a shit about the biggest sporting event in the world!! SHIT! How would you feel if someone didn't give a shit about your life and just murdered your ass? Because if you keep disrespecting something as major as the FUCKING OLYMPICS...Someone will kill you.

    I was sick during the winter olympics a few years ago. I stayed in bed and watched the olympics. You just have to give it a chance. Or be immobile!

    the olympics are incredibly outdated and were only relevant when 'modern' sports like football, baseball, basketball etc were not at the height of their popularity yet. I bet very little people can even name 10 athletes that perform at the olympics while they can recall every single small event that happened to their favourite other sports team. There is just no emotional involvement by the public anymore.

    The only ones that still seem to care are the media because they pay a rediculous amount of money to be able to air the event.

    I think it's brilliant, and I even live in the UK (although not in London) where a lot of people are all dismal about it. I'm going to two events which'll hopefully be amazing :D

    I know a lot of people less enthusiastic than me though. It's normal :)

    The opening was horrible. Hopefully, the games themselves will be much better.

      Out of curiosity, what didn't you like about the opening ceremony? I've not heard many people say they didn't like it, but then again I've not heard anyone's opinions of it from outside England :P

        I liked the beginning. It was really clever and it showed allot of promise, but they hopped around in England's timeline. The second skit with Mary Poppins vs Lord Voldemort was absolutely strange and silly. Then, the third skit is where everything went down hill. I think it was supposed to be about technology and modern teenage times and it made no sense. I didn't like how it was shot and the costumes where off for the decades. The flying cyclists and the final part was good, but the commentary over here was extremely rude to most of the other countries. It was a failed opportunity.

        I'm English and thought the opening ceremony was very good. It wasn't too over the top like other countries do with there's. Ours were kept simple, traditional in some ways and I think it paid off.
        We have some good talent in the UK and I am glad it came across last night.

          As an English person I liked it too. The way the cauldron was lit was genius, and the whole thing felt modest and humble in the fact that it wasn't as over-dramatic like it could have been.

          It seemed to me that the first long section was about the transition of Britain through the ages, from the Agricultural revolution to the Industrial Revolution to women's suffrage, but it didn't really focus enough on the World Wars and colonialism. It was all about the history of the country with the dark bits removed, which I thought was a bit disappointing. Other than that I actually quite enjoyed it and I'm by no means criticising it :)

            I loved the time line thing of Britain we had going on but I totally agree with you. Me and my friends discussed whilst we were watching that the world wars should have been focused on properly too, since they were a massive part of us.

    I felt the same in 2000. We were saturated with it, and had its inconveniences.

    I didn't even know it started today until someone told me last night.

    I guess it's normal to think that if you're British. We have heard a lot about it. But I'm really pleased to have the only opportunity I think I'll ever have to see an Olympics on my home soil.

    In fact, it's starting right now. Here we go!
