Is it normal that i dont like people asking "how are you?"

I can't stand it when people ask me "How are you?". In my opinion, it is a dumb greeting and I just prefer to simply have and exchange of "hi" when seeing someone. I also cringe when I hear someone say "nothing much" when someone asks them "what's up?". "What's up" is a greeting not a question (most of the time). I also can't stand when I hear someone say how are you a second time. Ex: "How are you". "Good, how are you?" "Good, how are you?". When I hear these awkward conversation starters I am extremely annoyed even though I am not involved in the conversation. Is this normal?

I can't stand small-talk in the first place.

Yup. Just say not good and it stops right there and most people go away lol.

As you mentioned, it's just a greeting. I understand why it's annoying though, sometimes I wonder why bother asking how I am if you really don't want to know? However, I've come to the conclusion that it's just a common courtesy.

I'm the very fucking same, I CRINGE and almost hiss at people when they ask me how I'm doing!

If you wish to say HI to me, just say HI. Depending on the person I can easily go : "Meh" or "It's shitty" but my Boyfriends mum asks how everyone is doing at all times and I can tell that she's just being her cute self so I can't bring myself to give her a snarky reply.

i perfer no words said & just the knuckle fist tap & eye contact no verbal greeting required... oh & small talk annoys me 2 no end mostly because it ends up as them bit**ing about their problems & i feel like saying idgaf

I myself am guilty of saying "Nothing much" when someone says "What's up?". It's not necessarily because I think they're asking me a question, it's more because I just don't know what the socially acceptable reply to something like that even is. I mean, someone says to me "Hey what's up?" should I just say "Hey" or what? I'm genuinely curious. I do agree though that I hate when people ask me how I'm doing in passing because I will then have to respond with the generic "Good..how are you?" when I know neither of us actually care how the other is doing.

I like when the conversation never gets past that...
How are you? How are you?
    *someone else joins in
How are you? How are you doing?
    *others join in
How are you? I'm fine how are you?
