Is it normal that i fear spherical objects?

Ever since I was little, round objects have made me really uncomfortable. I've gotten better at dealing with the fear now, but they still make me uncomfortable. My problem is with things that are almost perfect spheres like pearls. I imagine them slipping down my throat. Just the word "pearl" bothers me immensely. I hate eating when I'm around someone wearing pearls. Ew. I couldn't eat grapes until recently. It's really mostly objects that are small enough to eat. For instance a bowling ball doesn't bother me. If something is shiny, it just makes it worse. Has anyone ever heard of this fear?

it is called Sfairesphobia. I also suffer from it. Any time i see something like loose beads, pearls, couscous, roe, or piercings, it makes me super uncomfortable and I have to look away from it. This may also extend to more than just spheres, like in my case with rice and sprinkles.

    Hi all.

I'm so pleased to have found this place. I thought I was weird and alone. I have had a problem with sphere like objects since I was a child. The smaller and more shiny they are the worse it gets. It's really affected my life, including eating certain foods and even being put off by seeing others eating peas or similar. If I even see any thing while I'm eating I have to look the other way as for some reason the thought of anything round in my mouth makes me panic uncontrollably. It affects other areas in my life in a similar way. Any time I've tried to explain it to anyone its been meet with ridicule and have been laughed at a lot. I don't understand why I'm like it. I can tolerate it to a point, hide my emotions as much as possible around children and I'm ok with a football or bigger objects generally.. Although if they are shiny it's much worse regardless of size. When I was younger I even had issues with seeing circles.. But this is not really an issue now.
I guess there are others like me after all

I have a phobia of small balls, marbles, bubble gum balls, Maltesers, squashed blu tac, chewed chewing gum etc. I can eat peas and beans sometimes, if there is more than one on the fork, spoon or plate, but I couldn’t pick up a single one. My son spilled a tub of ball bearings for his B.B. gun and I went up on the sofa and cried with sheer panic. I also feel very uncomfortable touching skin moles, skin tags, knees, ankles and knuckles. It is soooo odd and I don’t know why. At my job I have to ask people to move the blu tac and it’s so embarrassing.

My husband has a fear of small balls of any kind. He says they gross him out and make him feel uncomfortable. Beads, dip and dots, spit balls, cereal. Any type of small ball. I actually came online to Google to see if there was a name for it. I only found this. Maybe he'll feel better knowing he's not alone

I totally understand, as I am very similar. I have no idea why.

I actually thought I was the only one to experience this. I've had this since I was a kid. Intense dislike for small spheres. They just bother me. Disgust is a more accurate word.

Omg I thought I was the only one with this phobia! I wasn't even sure it existed.

I also have this phobia, small spherical objects do make me really uncomfortable as well, I hate them and they do make me uncomfortable. Pearls and stuff also bother me, as well as any of it going near my throat. Indeed it is normal I assume if we both have it friend.

When I was young I ate poppyseed muffins and vomited. Ever since I have had an intense aversion to foods containing poppyseeds.

Not "normal," per se, but a lot of people have weird phobias. I wonder if you choked on a bead or something when you were little.

I'm scared of balls flying at me & I have a slight aversion when they are not doing anything.

I sat in front of my computer thinking about this for at least 15 minutes. Truly astonishing.

Maybe something happened when you were little? Like once when I was 5 I choked on a butterscotch candy and ever since then I've stayed away from butterscotch.. lol and it took me a while to get back to regular small candies.

I can understand that actually, feeling like you have a ball in your throat.

I've never heard of this specific phobia, but irrational fears are often triggered by traumatic events. Do you think that there is a chance this happened to you when you were little? Anyway, it sounds like you're already slowly but surely overcoming it.

I understand how you feel. I'm afraid of any object small enough to swallow, especially coins. I worry that I'll just 'snap' and try to swallow it, and wind up choking on it. My fear is part of a larger one about choking in general. Do you have a general fear of choking?

Fist and napkins make me uncomfortable... Specifically hankerchiefs. Fist i can imagine someome pushing it down my throat and it puts me on edge. Hankerchiefs make me think of ether amd someome drugging me, raping me and selling mw for ransom. O..o Its my illogical connotative interpretation lol.
