Is it normal that i feel uncomfortable sitting across someone at the table?

i feel really uncomfortable when im sitting across someone face to face at the restaurant. i might have a date coming up and im really nervous about this. i have almost no friends lol, havent been having meals with a friend or anyone like that in a while. im pretty shy and socially awkward due to the lack of social interaction. i get especially nervous at the restaurant with somebody sitting across me. is this normal? would it be weird if i ask a friend or a guy im going to date to sit next to me?

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

It makes sense, there’s a lot of pressure to carry conversation and make good eye contact, etc. It can be nerve racking. Honestly though, the best way to overcome that fear is to just make yourself do it. The more you try, the more normal it will feel, and eventually you won’t have to worry about it anymore. If you entertain the anxiety and have them sit next to you, then you’re always going to have that problem.

Same here. I'll sit next to someone if possible if we're going to eat. If we're just having coffee it's more fine. I don't like when people look at me while I eat.
