Is it normal that i force myself to do things in my mind?

like i might be walking and in my mind i say if you dont walk over that piece of land someone will die or something like that and i ignore it but then at the last minute i walk over it. i know nothing will happen i just have to make sure cause usually the 'someone who will die' is someone i love and i cant stop myself from thinking it. also sometimes i just pick something up and then in my mind i say pick it up again and i cant put it down till its in the right place. what is wrong with mee?

  • I do that to except it's me who dies. I'll be shooting hoops outside and say "if you don't make this you'll kill yourself" or if I'm doing homework I'll say "if you're not done by 6:00 you'll die" or something like that

  • I sort of have that problem. But it doesn't involve something bad happening. Maybe I'm jsut lazy, but if I, for example, want to pick up my pencil, I'll think really hard about allowing myself to do it, and then I eventually force myself to pick it up... It's weird.

Wow! I had exactly the same thing when I was a child! It was either about walking on something or putting some small thing somewhere. I still sometimes have that now, but very-very rarely,so it does not bother me.

Yes, it's OCD. And you should see a doctor - a psychologist, to be precise. With a little behavior modification therapy you can quickly learn how to control it.

If you're an adult, get a referral from your GP. If you're a kid, talk to your guidance counselor or parents. Most health insurers cover this type of short-term therapy.

I was going to say, yes... a level of OCD. I use to have it but in different areas and results but did grow out of it to an extent. What I mean by extent is that I am not doing things as compulsively but still feel that I HAVE to do something for it not to bother me in the next hour. But now it simply applies in the areas of work and being efficient. So my solution was how can i make my OCD a benefit and put it where it's useful and not a useless part of my life.

I personally dont think it's a problem. I feel it's a trait ppl have for a reason and it's a great thing but is best when you learn and know how to apply it and know where to use it for it to be a good thing. Think of it as a super power!?!?!

I have OCD and this is OCD. You can see a doctor for it, but I never did. They can't cure ocd unless you want to spend hours each week doing excessive useless therapy. I chose to live with it and accept it as who I am. I do the things you list 24/7 and I don't care anymore. Makes me who I am, ya know?
