Is it normal that i get annoyed my boyfriend isn't as smart as me?

We have been dating for a year and a half on and off and sometimes earlier in the relationship I would shy away because of the way he typed (he replaces his C's with K's... cringe) and the fact that he didn't know some of the words I used and I'd always have to tell him what some of the extremely simple words (at least that I thought...) meant. Ex. he had no clue what relevant/irrelevant meant. He's 19. Is it normal that it kind of turns me off that he's not as smart as I'd like him to be?

If it affected the way I talked to them, e.g. dumbing down my vocabulary, restricting the topic of conversation to a superficial level etc., then yes, that would annoy me a lot.

If it is an on and off relationship - next time it is off, keep it there. This is not so much about grammar and spelling and who is smarter than about whether your bf and you are simply compatible. That you are finding it hard to like him and wish he was someone else says it all irregardless of who he is. Move on.

I can overlook the fact that he doesn't know as much as me, since I don't know a lot of people who do, but at a certain point it becomes ridiculous. I definitely have no intention of marrying any of the people I troll by correcting their grammar and they insist that 'theirs no thing wrong with it lots of poeple spel lik this!'

Yes. I dated a guy who was less smarter than I and each time there was a conflict he would yell at me that I thought that I was so much smarter because I had studied more etc.. It was not my fault and thanks God we are no longer together. He didn't accept it and was ashame of the fact that I had a good job while he was working for his dad in a restaurant.

I actually agree with you 100%. I'm like that as well. My bf asks me how to spell words like 'genes' and 'sentences'. I'm very good with spelling and grammar and he.. is not.

Your grammar is better than mine.

This happens to me quite often. I am speaking with someone, I use a word that I think everyone knows, and receive only a blank stare of incomprehension in reply. I will calmly explain the term.

If this happens too many times with oneand the same person I will make a mental note to never exceed the extend of their vocabulary in a conversation again. Meaning, I avoid talking to them about more than the current weather or what's for lunch.

Yes! or at least it has happened to me. I used to like a boy until I realized he was, literally, stupid. He couldn't spell or use simple words, and he could hardly maintain a serious conversation. I feel your pain.

      "he was, literally, stupid".

      That was painfully ironic. Literally.

Um, okay. I don't know if there's a grammar mistake there or what. But english is not my first language, it's spanish. So sometimes I'm not sure how to use certain words. Sorry if I got it wrong.

  • I've never met a woman that was really smart and have seen no evidence that they exist. Though I guess it's possible he's so dumb that you somehow surpass him.

      • No that's the problem, i've known heaps, it's alarming how stupid the average woman is. I'm not going to say the opposite just to please the masses.
