Is it normal that i get d's and f's all of my favorite classes?

I'm in high school, and in the classes I hate, which right now are english and world history, I'm a B student, but when it comes to scientific subjects like math, chemistry, and physics (all of which I'm intensely interested in), It doesn't matter how hard I study. I spend a lot of my free time learning about the things I heard of in class, and I always feel as though I learn the material thoroughly, but obviously I'm doing something wrong. Part of the problem I feel is that I work extremely slowly. It takes me about 90 minutes to complete each assignment, so I end up with no free time, and I still don't get everything done. If I'm taking a test, I can usually only finish about 50-75% of it. It's extremely frustrating because by the end of the year, I always feel like I've learned so much, but I've failed to meet standards which were set beyond my capacity in the first place.

  • Maybe the classes you do well in you're not interested in because it's easy to you and you probably know most of it already (therefore the good marks), but the classes you do find interesting is because you don't know much about so you're curious and interested, and although you're not doing good presently, you do learn a lot (which is all that really matters in my opinion), so if you were to do the tests again you would do better ?

Of course it's normal to get low marks. Chemistry and physics are FAMOUS for being the hardest classes in high school (they look good to colleges.) Merely loving it isn't always going to guarantee great marks.

If you really want to improve your gpa don't be shy to email your teacher for help or ask a classmate. A lot of schools have this student tutoring (students teaching students) so go for that.

I have the same problem with History I can talk hours on end about history but when it comes time for report cards I have bad grades. Its just me being lazy though.

I had a college professor who claimed that she was put on academic probation because she was mesmerized by all the new and interesting information. It would make sense that you may work harder at the courses that you're not interested in out of fear of doing poorly. Although a bit ironic, you probably aren't taking your favorite, intriguing subjects as seriously as your less favorite. Put the same "gotta pass this" action into motion for all of your classes. Good luck!!!
