Is it normal that i hate math?

I was never very good in math. I can do the basics (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) of course, but when I got into high school it was like trying to learn a whole different language. The stuff I had the most trouble with was factoring and solving equations that involved factoring (such as 2x^2 + 33x + 34 = 100). I took a college math class and failed it because to this day I still don't understand factoring. I want to major in Early Childhood Development, and thought about possibly moving on to a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Ed., but the latter requires that you take 4 math classes (yes, 4!), and at least 2 are the harder ones. Now I am not so sure about moving on to Elementary Ed. because I have absolutely ZERO patience when it comes to math. I don't understand why you have to take so much college-level algebra for an Elementary Ed. degree...grade-school kids aren't taught this stuff until high school, anyway. Is it normal that I have always hated (and still do hate) math?

There are always things in life that we hate but must put up with. Perhaps the math is required to weed out the quitters and those who won't do the unpleasant things a particular job may require. It probably has nothing to do with using math itself.
If you want something bad enough, you should be able to put up with the unpleasant parts to get it.

It is alright to say that you suck at math, but if you said you can't read, that would be awkward.

In other words, yes it is totally normal to say you suck at math. I simply do not understand why does education force us to even learn all those functions and algebra, like if I ever needed it in real life.

Basic math is all I ever bothered to know. I somehow managed to learn to rest but I have forgotten it right after the exam. Screw math.

fuck maths. Maths never did anything to me.
If your course is worth it, then stick out with maths and get better. If not, find something else you love. that has less numbers.

If you hate math, how do you expect math to like you back ?

Don't hate the math, hate the idiots who are trying to make you learn something you don't need to know.

Yup completely normal, but I wouldn't let it stop you from pursuing your dream degree/career. Spend a lot time with your professor/TA and go to study groups, work with classmates, and possibly get a tutor (I don't know if they offer this service for free at your school or not). I'm the same way with science. I want to go to Grad school to pursue my dream career, but I have to take a lot of intro science classes that I failed in High school, so I spend obscene amounts of time on them, but sometimes that's what you have to do. Don't drive yourself crazy though...

There isn't much to understand about factoring other than going back to what was multiplied to get there. It's mostly a matter of pattern matching but you need to be good at seeing the patterns.

Yes, it's normal! Math is like another language for me, too. I want to study Early Childhood Education, and I'm terrible at math. I wouldn't have even graduated high school if it weren't for my boyfriend helping me do my online algebra and chemistry. Everyone has things they're bad and good at, but don't let that stop you from pursuing your dreams x
