Is it normal that i hate people who only exercise to look good?

Is it normal that I hate people who only exercise to look good? Here's an example: we all have that insecure friend who suddenly started exercising to look better. In reality, they HATE exercise, but now that they're a little more in shape they're some "exercise guru". It bothers me because I feel like exercise should be reserved for those who truly want it for reasons that aren't as shallow. Is this normal?

  • Any reason to stay motivated for being active is a valid one. Its all unique to the individual. To get flustered over someones reasons for exercise is only going to make you look bitter. A lot of people hate vegetables but eat them anyway because they know that it is good for them.

Someone acting like an exercise guru all of a sudden, might be annoying. Other than that, I disagree with you.

Hating someone because they want to improve their image seems like a dick thing to do...

Now people who showboat about the physique they have, if you hate that type of personality that's different than hating someone who works out to look good....

    Why else do it....

Health sure, but realistically 99.99999999% of the people out there do it to make them selves look better, if it's for them self or others either way... People see change and want to keep going...

So, this means that you hate a large part of the population.

Why in the world would you care why anybody else exercises? What makes you think you can judge them; are YOU perfect? How about you mind your OWN business and let others do as they please without your judgmental attitude?
If you think I'm being harsh, then you don't even want to suspect what I'd like to say to and about your kind.

I don't think there is anything wrong with that. That's how I lost 50 pounds. While I liked hiking, I didn't like doing aerobics and weight lifting, but I had to do it.

You gotta do what you gotta do. Your motivation can be anything you want it to be. That's the beauty of it.

My favorite escape for many years is working out and I also work in a warehouse lifting boxes all day plus I love playing sports and helping out in backyard. I used to be 80lbs but went up to 95lbs for health reasons. I can repeatively lift 30lbs over my head for 8 hours straight probably about 200x but anymore than that I would need to take breaks. I also work out tons when I get home. I used to work out to Insanity Fitness and p90x for 5 hours a day but when I got to 80lbs my bf made me see a doctor who wanted to send me to a hospital. I protested and agreed to eat more and cut down on my exercising. I look and feel better now I guess but I lovvvve working out sooo much. I miss the adrenaline rush. Take a look at my profile pic of me after gaining all that weight ;(

I just don't see why you're bothered with what others are doing. If they want to look good, let them. Maybe they did begin to like exercise; it's supposed to bust stress, after all. While I'm sure there are pretentious people out there, they are in the minority. Pretentious people can't keep up hard work.
What are the reasons to exercise that are not as shallow?

When I go running, the only thing on my mind is Zombieland.

    This is pretty absurd logic.

I just think you are trying to find fault with their success because of your jealousy.

Don't see how it's any different from exercising to be healthy. Either way you're doing it for yourself.

Also, don't be so sure your friend still hates exercise. I hated it before I properly started because I'd get tired so fast. Now, when I can run for a long time without getting tired, I love it. Exercise only sucks when you're super unfit because it's a lot of effort and hurts your muscles the next day. When you're used to it? A great stress reliever and honestly can be pretty fun.

I lost weight for a selfish, yet rational reason. Should it only be acceptable to exercise if I'm doing it for the sake of my health? Sure, but I also wanted to be in the best shape of my life and look more physically appealing to the opposite sex. Now I'm striving for the elusive six-pack and v-lines. :)

I don't understand caring about looks, but other people are entitled to care about what they want even if it seems shallow to me.

But I'm fat, I don't like being that way so I'm doing daily walks and jobs to loose weight which will in turn make my appearance look better which will increase my confidence and self image, I don't see what's wrong with that

I dunno, I feel like the phrase "The ends never justify the means," is kind of dumb. You should compare the means to the ends instead. If someone starts doing charity just to make themselves look good, they're still making the world an objectively better place in the process. Don't bother overanalyzing people's motivations.

However, if someone is being irritating about being an exercise guru, that's a end you can take issue with.

Looking good is one of the things that motivate me to exercise and eat less junk food. I lost 22 lbs and I only have 15 more to go.
