Is it normal that i hate religions and churches?

Is it normal that i hate how religions and churches think that they can control the world? i just find any religion pointless. It's life, so live it, and dont be held back by some assholes who think theres a magical man up in the clouds.

I agree with sassy. Many people have been influenced by the church. It has it ups and downs, but religion itself is not the problem; the problem is that there is no real separation of church and state. Meaning that our laws and wars are governed by these influences.

It's true, people have done, and still do, a lot of heinous things in the name of religion and justify it in the name of their god(s). There is a flip side to the coin; it sometimes gives some people comfort and guidance, and it sometimes brings communities/families together.

Ok every religion is like that, religion is responsible for an insane amount of fear and death, at least organized religion is if it gets to big, but I have no problem with people private religious or spiritual beliefs it's just that some people use those beliefs for their own agenda

You want to know why you feel that way? There is too much corruption in religion and church. There is a lot of people that say that they have a religion to save face. They don't want people to know what their true intentions are. Some are like that but not all. You just have to do your own research and go with what you believe to be true. No one knows until the end.

Don't blame God or religion for the mistakes people make. That's like blaming a computer because someone committed cyber-crimes. God is ever gentle and ever loving. God created the Church to offer community, support, and love from one human to another. That fact that people have abused their power and position, and they have, doesn't mean there never should have been a church. Without organized religion, we would not have had Mother Teresa or Dr. Martin Luther King, who found their calls in the church.

thank you very much, that was well said.

To everyone else: notice how those who discard religion as nonsense refer to "a big man in the sky" or "a beardy dude in the clouds". WHO THE HELL BELIEVES THAT? Nobody lives in the sky, solid fact. Look outside. Most religions are centered around a creator in an extra-universal place. Enough of your generalisations- learn about what you're throwing away.

Can I just quote the bible here:
"[Jesus came] to give life, and life to the full." John 10:10

      Live it.

I don't believe a word of religion, but I do believe the original concept - love, plain and simple, towards everyone. That should be enough. I don't need a God to love.

But most Christians and other theists these days seem to think the opposite - they don't need to love anyone as long as they obey God, word for word, from an unreliable old book. Even then they twist the words to suit their purposes. These are the ones that ruin it all, for everyone - they piss off atheists and make theists ashamed of their own faith.

So yes, it's perfectly normal to hate the church because of what people like that have done. Just remember that their are a few good religious people out there.

Remember that that very 'outdated old book' is the one that says to love all people, including God. Read it comprehesively, you'll see what they're ignoring for their greed.

I completely agree with you, dude. Religion is such a waste of time. I simply live my life the way that I feel best. I love helping others and shit but I do it for me, not the invisible dude who lives in the sky, watching my every move and thought.

    • okay i think that was comment was uncalled for, everyone is intitled to their opinions. if you don't agree with religion then don't but not agreeing with and hating are two different things. you say you hate religion for pushing their values on others and starting wars and shit but by saying you hate all religion and everything it stands for how does that make you any better than them?
